My favorite part of HAKO is that it is neutral on beliefs and opinions. A person might have political or religious beliefs that you totally disagree with, or even find repellent, but that person can still be HAKO and so you can still engage them in conversation or debate in good faith.

I feel this intersects nicely with the vlogbrothers' DFTBA. Because DFTBA tells us not to forget, and HAKO tells us how to be awesome.

I still want one! Please do let me know when you do it again! We've been on hard times but, once out of them, you're the second on my list to support (my bff, naturally, being first). Love your work, your compassion, your thoughtfulness, and obviously you're videos.

If I were to make my own, I think my values would be
*Open-mindedness
*Critical
*Realism
COR, you could say it like core lol
-Open-mindedness because shutting ourselves off from possibilities is ignorant and detrimental to our understanding of the world around us.
-Critical because we need to assess all possibilities and beliefs with pure logic, without bias, and decide what to believe, or whether to believe anything at all. This critical, logical mindset is how we find truth or what's for the best, not following what our hearts tell us, as our hearts typically lead us astray.
-Realism because we need to recognize our situations as they are, unaltered by idealism, bias, desire, disbelief, or misplaced confidence which often lead us to blatantly deny truth and make poor decisions based on fallacies. When we let what we wish to be damage our reality, we are being both foolish and willfully troubled.
A note on the heart thing:
I know you don't think with your heart, plz nobody bring that up, its just a commonplace metaphor. Also, sometimes following your heart IS the logical thing to do (hence the word "typically"), but usually just because it can be a stress reliever. Another scenario is following your heart doesn't affect the outcome other than positively (like picking which color of the exact same toothbrush, it's really just the one you like more).

If you're interested in formulas and living life well, I'd highly reccomend you check out non-violent communication, a language of life. It cuts through a lot of the subjective bs in communication and focuses of the things that matter most, like connecting with people.

HAKO! I like it, and I think (correct me if I'm wrong) you're using it as a guideline to behavior rather than as a way to judge. For example, I've always struggled with assertiveness, but since I see the value in standing up for myself, it's something worth striving for. Doesn't mean I won't be a good person if I never get it down, but working on it makes me better. Which is, now that I think about it, a good answer to the question about purpose in life–always trying to be a better person. Works for me.

HAKO actually lines up pretty nicely with my own moral philosophy. its very important to be who you are but equally important to remember to allow yourself to grow and change. I think HAKO sums that up in some ways.

I think it's probably better to value education than intelligence, I mean people can't change their general intelligence that much, necessarily, but good education in culture allows people a better understanding of the world and each other, and more sort of inner resources to support each other with.

Did you watch Unnatural Vegan's response to your video on vegetarianism? Because you care about kindness and open mindedness I think vegetarianism would fit you well because it is about preventing unnecessary suffering to animals.

Being kind while honest requires creativity, it's useless without assertiveness, and without open-mindedness it's unintelligent.
