❤‍🩹 Anger & self-pity (aka self-compassion < : – ) can actually be HEALING, according to many therapists who work with childhood trauma/complex ptsd. (Shout out the great Pete Walker!) Abusive and/or emotionally immature parents train kids to suppress and ignore emotions the parent finds inconvenient. 👿 But humans need access to ALL our emotions for important things like intuition & boundaries that help keep us safe in the world. 🧐 Amputating the ability to know and act on our feelings is one of the most disgusting things abusive people do imo because it sets us up for continued harm throughout our lives that many of us blame ourselves for. 🤮 Luckily, therapists have come up with various simple exercises to help bring this vital system back online that are available with a quick google search and some practice. ❤‍🩹🙃😃❤

Neal. Be careful with your "cure" and new outlook on life. Don't overcorrect and go too far down this drug path that you associate with GOD. It's a new self medication method you can use positively temporarily. As someone who has suffered with and through depression myxwhole life……I'm worried for you, man.

Neil Brennan is such a great guy, I feel like I know him because of this podcast although I really don't. I'm glad he's got good friends like Jimmy Carr! You're a good example Neil thanks for all that you've done and all you will do. Never die.

I have never seen anything more valuable on youtube. Jimmy, you are a living iteration of my Uncle, the most helpful human creature i have ever encountered, and Neal I applaud your tenacity, covet your comedic chops, and promise you both I will not squander the value I have gained from your efforts. I will use this as reference material to hone my skills as a helper who helps and in the crafting of comedy. This is an incredible gift to me, I hope someday you both see me prove it.

The term “imposter syndrome” keeps coming up. Why do so many people feel inadequate? You are a person. This life is very messy and the only perfect person made it to 33 years old before being killed by the cruel world. You are enough. You are loved.

Neal, you're like a great novel. Full of complications, struggle, and, finally triumphs.
I love your shows and this lil tidbit. Awesome.
Jim is also one of my favorite comics. Hope yall stick around a while longer.

Neal Brennan's views on how to treat others and such seems to basically be (ironically, what most Christians have forgotten); like Jesus. Or what Jesus thought, that whole "do to others what you would have them do to you" (had to look up where this was from; Matthew (7:12) (as in "treat others as they treat you", or to interpret it as "as you want they to treat you"), coupled with matthew 5:38-40 (the "turn the other cheek" part)

It’s amazing to see, not just one, but two empathic male role models discuss their feelings with above average emotional intelligence. Thank you for providing a template – it’s hard to find elsewhere.

If you can get the other person to understand your perspective, regardless of if you or they are right, are good, and if they are wrong and realize that but are a bit.. belligerent (as we all can be sometimes), maybe instead of getting an "you are right", getting a "yes" to "do you get my point?" is equal to a win-win scenario there,.

Am I the only one who’s getting tired of these thinly veiled circle-jerks? I understand a level of respect, but “You’re so great” “No you’re so great” for 90min is brutally Orwellian.

I think that there is more nuance to the balance of friendship. I don’t think it is a tit for tat. I think it is more about respecting each other and meeting each other’s needs because they are bound to be different.

Neal, I don't know you but you are a really good person. You have flaws and you do things wrong sometimes, but you are really important to humanity. In a very plain and simple way, you inspire and entertain, you talk and listen, you philosophize and joke, and you make people feel like things are OK. You do a very good job. Thank you.

Around the 15-minute mark, Neil discusses the concept of fairness, recounting how, as a child, he never knew when or why the beatings would happen. This uncertainty led to a condition known as 'learned helplessness.' This condition, extensively researched by B.F. Skinner, can be better understood through reading and research. Neil, or anyone experiencing this, might find comfort in learning about the causes, mechanisms, and effects of 'learned helplessness.' Hope this helps

This podcast is great because the conversation is so intelligent. I love seeing men open up and talk about their personal lives. I think this could be the start of a new era where men feel comfortable sharing their feelings and experiences with each other. Jimmy and Neal are the perfect combination of comedy and understanding.

Saw Neal in Long Beach many years ago. Hit him with a fist bump in the back as he walked off because it was a great set. He hit me back. Never forgot that for some reason. You have a more positive effect on people than you will ever know man.
