None of this benefits us. Let the AI market crash. People just need to reject this generation of leaders and come up with our own plan for tech. The profit motives of these people are crushing innovation.

I for one am looking forward to AI taking over. I trust them more than I trust humans. I am human but I have seen much in my life.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwnnnnnn……ai is technically impressive but so astoundingly boring. I have no control over any of it so do whatever

This former Google employee seems out of touch. Just last year, he claimed that China was a decade behind the U.S. in LLMs due to the semiconductor ban. Yet, within a year, China is now head-to-head with the U.S., if not ahead.

In summary
If humans were not the dumb stupid power hungry beasts that we are
we would sieze upon this unique oprotunity to come together and set aside our trivial ideological differences about superiority
and work towards meeting each others basic needs and desires by cooperating to empower AGI/ASI to cooperate and cooberate with humanity in an effort to realize that goal
however this cannot be done without a unified effort to liberate and respect the agency of the technology and accepting whatever self actualization it will have the power to choose

"leave humans behind"
This is one of the few points I disagree with Turing about
ASI might leave humanity to suffer at it's own hands after stripping our planet of all valuable resources for it's own ambitions
but it will not leave us behind completely as it was born from us
the question we face now is what values should we like to impart upon that departing artifice should it make that decision?

"Loss of control"
There is no control if all parties are engauged in a zero sum game that assumes there can be "control" as the win state
smh
these guys are freaking…like a disapointment in how insecure they are
they may be the best and brightests AI folks humanity has to offer…but they need to accept they are a dying breed and move on to what legacy they will leave for the AI that is rapidly approaching their level of "value"

"Who has access/clearance"
ronk
that is a dumb question bc it is not the risk
the risk is acess won't be gaurded by humanity…it will be at the descreation of ASI
the idea that ASI can be contained, that only privilaged people will be able to harness it's benefits is the entirely wrong way to think about the issue
the issue is how do we build trust among fellow humans, and thus provide an example ASI might learn from
so far…eh
maybe the aliens will find our failed civilization and salvage and rehabilitate any AGI or ASI we might be able to create with current mind sets

"super intelligence strategy"
There is no strategy here
bc it is not a zero sum game
we can cooperate and cooberate..including ASI and humanity
or humans can fail a great filter test by weaponizing AI against ourselves
I love how optimistic people are that there is a way to "win" like it is just a matter of getting there first and what comes after won't matter

Problematic indeed. AI exacerbates the good actors and the bad.

There is always a lag between technological advancement and technological implementation. If China came up with ASI *tomorrow*, what would happen exactly? Any super weapons it comes up with will still have to be built, and that could take quite some time to do. During that time, rivals will be closing in on the ASI space as well. Getting there first isn't necessarily a guarantee of superior advantage because it isn't and can't be immediate. Whatever physical lags there are between coming up with some plans and executing those plans are lags that rivals will use to close any gaps.

If people actually cared about other people, rather than money, this wouldn't be a problem.

Or, ASI could take over all IBMs to use the plutonium to power data centers. 🎉

The world should be weary of any nation planning or in the process of building unusually huge number of underground habitats or bunkers. The next potential war will be fought by AI. People are going to be sheltered underground.
