Little bit of misinformation: The plural of octopus is actually not octopi, but rather octopuses! Because octopus is a Greek word, you don't put an "I" on the end to make it plural, like you would if it was a Latin word. Hope this helps, no hate. Thanks for the great video!

one of my very favourite gifs ever is one where a scientist drops a camera into an octopus tank and the octopus grabs the camera and it starts filming the scientist instead.

It is crazy to think that an animal that is one of the most highly intelligent animals is also the prey of nearly every other animal in it's environment. I don't know much about evolution but supposedly predators usually have to be smarter than prey since prey just have to be quick enough to get away, hyper-vigilant enough to make it very hard to catch them watching their surroundings, and just smart enough to avoid getting easily caught if something comes after them. Likely squids have to be pretty smart because in the sea almost everything is trying to eat everything else and without something like a shell to protect them better every search for food is a game of roulette where they will become someone else's meal instead of being able to find food themselves. Also from what you said about some of their problems, higher intelligence for any species often comes at a cost not the least being extra calorie intake/ extra maintenance to support such processing power.

Imma go out on a limb and say that eating an animal while its still alive should net you eternal hell and jailtime. Thats fucking torturous dude I don't give a shit how engrained in a culture it is. Thats just sickening and I hope they get eaten alive by a sewer gator next time they go for a swim :3
Yeah yeah I know predators do it to animals all the time, but we're humans. We don't eat things alive out of necessity for survival, people just do it because they're freaks.
