Idk, the idea of some cabal of rich tech elite enforcing a procedure to dull the population's minds and make everyone into super model 16 year olds is actually probably the most plausible thing in this movie, given… what the rich tech elite do and.. are into irl

I know this is old but there actually is a surgery that makes your legs longer now. They break your legs and put rods in to just grow more bone inbetween and make your legs longer. I'm explaining it crazy, but it is crazy. I just read an article where this lady in like Austria or somewhere got it and regrets it because her ex husband pressured her into it. It did make her taller but she says she has pain from it. And they showed another guy that'd had the surgery, but he was really happy with his. He had T-Rex arms for sure tho, very weird. I think it was originally something done for little people, but vanity.

50:00 The reason the comments for your YA reviews are full of people asking why you hate the movie is the 14 year olds writing them havenāt actually watched the videos š They have no attention span. If the books werenāt 100% tween girl wish fulfillment they wouldnāt have read them/watched the movies either.

I read the book a long time ago, like middle school and Iām almost 30 now. If my memory serves me, the point is that the UGLIES are just normal people by todayās standards, and that beauty standards had progressed beyond what was naturally achievable, hence the extreme nature of the surgery. So when Jaime says ānone of the kids are uglyā thatās kind of the whole point.
Iād maybe argue that where they really fucked up is not pushing the PRETTIES to such an extreme that by our standards they would be bordering grotesque.
The book doesnāt just come right out and say all this, itās up to the reader to infer. So someone who has a more literal understanding might not pick up that part. I distinctly remember a chapter in the book where Tally is exploring the ruins of the RUSTIES society and finds a bunch of old fashion magazines. The book is written in the first person from her perspective, and when she finds the magazines she thinks to herself how ugly the model on the magazine is. I took this to imply that even people WE would consider to be the most attractive among us by todayās standards would be considered ugly by their future standards. Hopefully Iām making sense.

As a reader of the book a lot of the plot wholes are filled. The pretties are almost so beautiful that they are like anime characters with big eyes. And all. And the uglies are just ordinary people. But the film is shit.

If she had a scare wouldn't that be considered ugly and they would have removed it? Maybe the Evil queen is David's mother and his "parents" are really his grandparents!!!! The sequel "Ugliers"…
