Derrick Perry praised for aiding with Traverse City Walmart stabbing

UpNorthLive | August 27, 2025

Derrick Perry, a married father of three and former U.S. Marine, is being called a “hero” after his brave actions helped bring an end to the mass stabbing incident at the Traverse City Walmart on Saturday.

In a video, Perry is seen holding a gun on Bradford Gille, the stabbing suspect, demanding he put down a knife.

Perry spoke with Mola Lenghi about his actions during the incident, emphasizing the collective effort of the bystanders who also intervened.

“They were unarmed, and they still jumped into action,” Perry said, crediting the courage of those around him.

Police acknowledged the selfless efforts of all the bystanders, stating that their intervention prevented the situation from becoming much worse.

God bless this man. The man who was stabbing people may have been schizophenic and hearing voices. Derrick Perry did what was necessary to defuse the situation and hold the man until the police arrived, God bless him and his family for not handling the situation in such a way.

Thank you for your service my friend. In the past and present. If you died tonight, are you 100% sure you would go to heaven? God wants us to know for sure and his word tells us how we can know. Eternal life with God is a free gift. Jesus Christ paid it all for you. He took your punishment so you can go free. The gospel. Jesus Christ died for your sins, according to the scriptures, and that he was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. Acknowledge your a sinner, ask Jesus Christ to forgive you, put your trust in his finished work on the cross / his shed blood that can cleanse your sin.. and ask him to forgive you and save you. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
