Setting fire to an entire forest just to record l'ambiance shows true dedication. Awesome!

I started using ambient audio from my daily life as beds and mud pies for tracks, and listening back lets me instantly time travel to when I was making it.

Fantastic Video! Is there anywhere I can listen to the scoring that starts at 9:29?

What's the song that starts at around 9:50? It's beautiful and I'd love to find it on YouTube music.

Something I cannot find, is clean audio of a tornado taken with like you know the biggest dead cat on earth. It's always tornado chasers with shitty audio.
I'd say go with Reed timmer because he's like the best storm chaser, but he's also incapable of not screaming when he sees any sort of tornado

I'm a meteorologist and one of my absolute favorite sounds in the world is going to a very quiet location and laying on the ground in a very light snowfall, the kind that is slightly more snow grain than snow flake. Hearing the snow hitting my face and the ground around my head creates most delicate and intermittent taps, truly the greatest ASMR the would can create. It's even better when the ground is blanketed by a former snowfall and you hear snow plinking on snow.

To me the most amazing part was the fact you were so cavalier around a forest fire.
That might have a lot to do with being from Australia, though.

There's an app called flight radar 24 that gives real-time positions of aircraft, which might be helpful trying to find times when you're spared aircraft noise. Of course that only works where there's a mobile signal…..

Umm, our society’s simplification of history and absence of any nuance continues to disturb. We just don’t improperly teach history in America, we butcher it by this oversimplifying. The dust bowl had nothing to do with the South. Plus we already knew how to crop rotate to sustain healthy yields. Just because a small minority which were plantation owners decided to be greedy by over farming cotton doesn’t mean it was the norm. This false idea that all farming and labor in the South was by slaves and everyone owned slaves is very damaging. Only wealthy people owned slaves and sprawling plantations. Anywhos, slavery had long been gone by the Dust Bowl anyways and happened in part of the country that lacks rainfall… the Midwest. We didn’t need “the🥼experts” to “rescue” the “poor dumb uneducated racist” southern farmers. Oh and as if the South is the only place in America that farmed😵💫
Side-note… the incredible TuskegeeU and the prolific inventor Dr. Carver “both southern” were actual heroes we should remember in history and not just the establishment entrenched institutions and experts of America’s elitist ruling class. It’s especially these people and their ideas which have corrupted and brought generations of death and destruction. Just like when the State corrupted Tuskegee doing horrible things back then… it’s done so throughout and into current times yet we as society won’t recognize it till many decades later. The next one being the evil “social experiment” that is THE GREAT SOCIETY… but will we have the courage to acknowledge this inhumane treatment that’s still being portrayed as “welfare”??? Time will tell 🧐 oh and before the admonishment… safety net is a good thing but masquerading dependency”welfare” as a social positive is just pure evil and disgusting.

I feel really privileged to live where I do … it’s so much easier to get to places where you can hear no artificial human technology. It’s a joy to get out and hear nothing but nature and the sounds of close friends’ voices

Go to the northern Nevada desert and head west! After Gerlach, go past Planet X and turn left on the next dirt road. Go about 30 miles south and just before you come to Espil's ranch, take the dirt road to the right, up to Buffalo Camp. It used to be part of the Pony Express route. I don't know if Espil still has it. You should ask at the ranch. Beware! The cattle dogs can be friendly or not. I can send a map if you want.

Yes, these exhausted post-apocalyptic terrains are what we Bible kids were correctly informed in the 1960s would be available after the rapture. Not sure when the rapture happened but I guess I didn't get uplifted. I saw a video where you were trying to destroy your ears, and hear you're attempting to destroy your lungs. Here I mean. Literally didn't do that with the "hear" on purpose. I do appreciate your sacrifices. We were treated to an especially authentic moment when somewhere in the dreg end of a dead world you pulled out your knife and threatened some piece of electronic equipment that was so inoperative it must have been made in America. Karma. We killed the trees and thought we could get away with it.

6:10 All that "free labour" had to be housed, fed and managed which was not free. Only 1.6% of Americans owned slaves, because they were expensive to acquire and keep.

Oh man … your video reminds me so much of the video game "7 Days To Die" where you are alone in some sort of a catastrophy and you have to survive by crafting everything by yourself. Practically it's (more or less) some sort of "Minecraft with realistic graphics." (and zombies). Especially when you arrive at the burned part of the forest. Thank you so much again for this video.
