One of the ways that gets trolls out of my face is the silent treatment. I often browse X (X Twitter if you like). If I suspect I'm trolled I disconnect and block immediately and they never hear from me again.

I am a firm believer in blocking disruptive people and deleting comments, but my favorite weirdos on the internet are ones who get mad at you, insult you, and then attempt to dismiss you by saying "have a good day". Its so patronizing.

I see this overall situation as this, once comedy and well society was destroyed by Leftists (progressives, Marxists etc) the jester was kicked out of the castle because elitists became so infatuated with themselves and their favorite pass time that being the arms race of egos that they became so disassociated with reality that they could no longer tolerate criticism. The elitists have deified themselves through narcissism and when you kick the jester out of the castle it summons the trolls. Most people alive today in America cannot comprehend what comes after trolls.

I made a rule for myself that when I leave a YouTube comment, I never reply to the replies people leave on my comment, no matter how dumb or mean the thing they said is. It's helped me a lot

Feeding the trolls isn't productive, but it's your Emotional Labor. If you want to argue with them, then fine. If you don't, then there's lots of other entertainment to be found on the internet. Either way, you're not going to have any effect, so it's Neutral advice. If you feed them, they're not going to learn anything. If you don't trip-trap on their bridge, then they'll find someone else to rage at.

haven't watched yet but… yes and look at the profile to see if it's fishy, point it out to the people they talk to, and post on any trolls page that they are a russian plant, because they probably are. and they influence elections.

My idea of trolling is just highjacking the conversation to nonsense and making jokes. I've never threatened or been mean to anyone. I just like being annoying but I do consider myself a troll. Maybe I need a new word for what I do that separates myself from creeps and harassers.

AS far as responding w/kindness. I'm older and often don;t even recognize when someone is being rude and mean to me. I've honestly thanked someone, and only found out later that they were criticizing me,lol. But I do know in "real life" kind of ignoring someones bad behavior and responding with politeness and kindness can take the wind out of them. I've worked in retain and learned this one.

I have involuntarily trolled others before, as in I wrote something that wasn't meant to get to them but obviously did. Maybe I missed my true calling, but it sounds like a stupid waste of time so I hope it's not actually my true calling.

A persistent, malignant troll is like a pain-anger parasite. They feel validated, and powerful by getting a reaction from the target. The only way to blunt the troll attack is to deny the troll attention it craves. They need their fix of reaction, and must move on if they feel they are not getting any energy from the target.

Some people are mean for the sake of bothering you, but some people are mean because that's how they feel like at that moment or all the time and when writing are expressing what they truely believe, deleting those comments and blocking the commenter keep the audience from knowing that that amount of people hold such beliefs and ideas, and therefore you, me, people in the audience wouldn't know what are they fighting against, and would stay in the comfort buble. I think that silencing attacking or even suposedly hateful not actually threating comments is bad if we want to keep the diacussion open.
Now if there's a life or security threat you should take action otherwise if you can't fight them just ignore them.

The best way I've found to break up a troll it just an angry uncle online is to talk to them like someone you just met in person. Remind them that they're talking to a regular person with a life. It's hella easy for ALL of us to forget that we're replying to a person and not an avatar. Even trolls are people… Most of the time.

I wholeheartedly believe censorship is appropriate in certain situations; people aren’t obligated to accept abuse. Additionally, no one is entitled to my attention. I don’t have to engage with every person who disagrees with me.

As far as not feeding the troll I typically don't say anything at all or I block them we can never get rid of troll and everyone has to take responsibility for how they manage trolls because nothing we can do can keep trolls from trolling people. There are predators and there is prey and the only thing we can really do to stop trolls is simply try not to be the person who is an easy target. If somebody gets attacked by a troll alot of the responsibility lays on that person to manage that because it's better to rely on ourselves rather than waiting on someone to come along to make things better.
