In 2016 Bob Dylan became the first musician to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. However, his process as a songwriter is very different from most other songwriters.

    Very fair. Very very fair. And lucid. And worth hearing too! I and my sister, Liliana Cunado-Rincón, listened to this as we ate our guacamole, our hot chilli peppers, our Greenland Rock Oysters. Outside the garden grew carelessly tall and wild. The last Samurai hid in the woodshed and I thought about listening to that draft version of 'you're gonna make me lonesome when you go' you say, brother (hermano), is so good.

    good work – Dylan has the 'soul' of a poet – kind of prophetic or wide-feeling ability to receive what is in the situation or subject being written about. Take Hattie Carroll – suffering and injustice exists, but the greatest tragedy is when the law fails to protect or uphold. Then we have no nhope and truely its time to 'bury the rag deep in your face'.
    its true taht at times he can jsut rhyme of string words, but at others he has the capacity to present something that comes form an enliveded human soul – and this is a divine gift

    I read that he word write rhyming couplets in a book to pool from later . Good detective work on the borrowed melodies on his first Album .That performance video from his very early days is a great history , looks like Judy Collins 💕 sitting behind him.

    Sorry to burst your bubble, but they gave him a Nobel peace prize simply because he was Jewish. There a hunger to continually maintain a high percentage of Jewish recipients of the prize. So even though there are plenty of songwriters in the last century who should have been considered, none of them were Jewish.

    You should listen to ketch secore of old crow medicine show talk about how he asked bob dylan if he could use Dylan’s words for wagon wheel. Dylan told him he didn’t write the words in question and told secore where it all came from

    2:50 I also saw this "free like" writing style of Bob Dylan on the back of the "Highway 61 Revisited" album in the description of it, it was just like he said: pages of long slides of vomit. That's why I think to, that he deserved that Nobel.

    You skip over his reformating acoustic music on albums such as Another Side of Bob Dylan and culminating in Bringing It All Back Home. The acoustic side of BIABH bears little resemblance to traditional folk forms and the modernity and density of the lyrics far outstrip not only tradional folk songs, but original songs from emerging artists following in his wake. No one else could write sonething like Desolation Row

    I am a writer and musician. I think Dylan's best record is BRING IT ALL BACK HOME. It was the first record I ever bought. Not because it was Dylan. I bought the record because the LP's picture was SOOOO WEIRD. It also had Tambourine Man on it, and I HATED that song. I'm from Shetland, and we play FIDDLE, or when I lived there, from 1950 to 1963. In 63, when I was 13, we moved to America; Detroit, Michigan for a year, then out to a tiny wee farm — only 15 acres and the farm had been vacant for over twenty years; I learned SOOOOO MUCH on that farm. But I hated R&R, BUT a friend on the island who lived close had an uncle who was a merchant marine and would being my friend R&R records which he loved; he also had a portable turntable that you wound up with a skate key. The day before we came to America he came over with his record player but had only one 45. MY LIFE CHANGED IN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES; IT WAS THE BEATLES!!!!!! Then, in America I heard the band that made me want to play ROCK!!! The Beatles made me question my only instrument, FIDDLE, but it was THE WHO that made me want to play ROCK!!! MY GENERATION was AMAZING!!! BUT. my favourite writer/songwriter IS JOHN PRINE, and I'm pretty sure I read or even heard him in an interview say, when asked about John Prine, he said: I WISH I COULD WRITE LIKE HIM; Mr. Dylan, JOHN PRINE IS THE BOMB!!! But you ain't no slouch yourself!!! The Best Beatles record is REVOLVER! Because on that record you could hear where they come from, where they were, and where they were going!
