2025 I still love this song. But not this one, the one without Justin. The whole song is dirty talking basically, and when you are dancing that works great.

My experiences with Spanish are limited, but at least in some countries, a person's last name is built from their parents names… so even if she's not married, her family name spells trouble.
    Maybe they're committing incest? 😅

I can just imagine record executive sitting around an LA high rise office building listening to the original song in early 2017:

Exec 1: This song is spicy hot, but it's missing something.

Exec 2: You know what it needs?

    Exec 1: Hmm?

    Exec 2: A white Canadian.

All execs present nod and mutter in agreement.

Kinda surreal to watch this review after the craze over this song died down and knowing that despacito is one of YouTube's most watched videos ever having a view count equivalent to the entire earth population

Despacito, which despite everything i still think is the biggest hit song of my life, behind maybe blinding lights and old town road, is lower on the billboard all time chart, than tonight’s the night by rod stewart (the worst year-end no.1)

I can't belive that 1) it's already six years since Despacito, but more importantly 2) that Daddy Yankee has retired from music to evangelize for Jesus. Like. What.

(The original Despacito is still a bop, though. A filthy, smutty, kinda hilarious bop.)

7:22 "you thought you were king […] but it Daddy Yankee" idk if this was intentional, but Daddy Yankee was literally called the King of Reggaeton

Justin's obnoxious voice is too recognizable to be ignored. I had always felt that one kind of singer within many pop music sounds off, cringe and suspicious but couldn't really figure out why until I found out that 80% of those annoying voices belongs to no other but Justin Beiber!

this song used to and still actually makes me very uncomfortable every time i hear it

but that is something that happens to me with pretty much any "reggaeton" song, even tho i am mexican and unfortunately for me, that shit is undoubtedly massive here

I went to a wedding in August of 2017 and has a blast dancing to this. It was 3 weeks after I gave birth to my oldest child and I still can’t believe I had the energy to do that.

He spends half the review talking about how he doesn't speak the language and doesn't understand the lyrics.

Meanwhile, my weeb ass has been listening to J-Pop and anime themes for a decade and a half and am fully used to this. This is like preschool levels of 'I don't understand the lyrics, and that in no way impacts my listening experience'.

This song did inspire Norwegian Reggaeton by Nanowar of Steel, which is one of the best songs of whatever year it came out. Got to give it some credit for that.

Not so hot take as a person who likes regueton: despacito super sucks and only has value as meme fodder. If it werent for the stupid ass pandemic whacking us over the head in 2020 i just know safaera by bad bunny (an much more interesting artist imo) would have been an absolute summer jam

Dude, I mean, call it filthy if you want…

but that's pretty deep on the lyrics. Not the Justin one's, the actual one's.

"I want to undress you with kisses slowly." Okay, no metaphor there. That's literal. And sexy. Taking the time to not just toss clothes off, but worshipping the body all along the way of undressing. Suave, I dig it.

"Sign the walls of your labyrinth." Okay, we're exploring. And it's a labyrinth, traditionally that's not like hitting up a drive thru and being out in 2 minutes. That's going to take some time… but not only would that take time just finding your way through, I'm going to extend that time by ALSO signing the walls along my way. I'm not rushing here… this would ALREADY take time, and I'm going to take even MORE TIME.

"And turn your entire body into a manuscript." Okay, getting away from the sexual jokes here… since 'signing' was sperm in the 'labyrinth', and now the ENTIRE BODY is the manuscript. So 'ink' all over, if you will. And I get it, I do… that can seem icky and certainly sticky. It can ALSO be seen as pretty damn passionate if two people enjoy that. But this ALSO speaks to time… this isn't just "Kilroy Was Here' in a Porta-John in Iraq. We went from signing the walls, to having enough words to be a full blown (PHRASING!) manuscript.

And THAT comes to another layer as well. Manuscript. This is something more than scribbles on a wall. This has become… well, Art.

We are going to take our time, explore each other, and create art. So if we can turn off our PornHub mind for a moment… and it's low hanging fruit to hit this song in that regard… we can see this can absolutely be received as romantic and passionate. Connection and chemistry.

I like it. I dig it. I respect it.
