Walmart stabbing suspect bond hearing

UpNorthLive | August 4, 2025

Bradford Gille, the man accused of stabbing 11 people at the Walmart in Garfield Township, could have his bond revoked.

Gille was arraigned Monday in the 86th District Court.

Magistrate Tammi Rodgers set Gille’s bond at $100,000 cash surety.

The bond amount generated a lot of online debate and concern about whether there was a possibility someone would raise enough money to post Gille’s bond.

Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney Noelle Moeggenberg confirmed to UpNorthLive she planned to file a motion Tuesday to have Gille’s bond increased with additional protections or revoked entirely.

Viewers of Gille’s arraignment also pointed out he made a finger gun hand gesture to the jail camera as the magistrate was reading his bond conditions.

When asked about the hand gesture, Moeggenberg said over email, “Frankly, I would have filed a motion even if the defendant had not made that gesture.”

Moeggenberg said because of the gesture, she’s pushing for the bond to be revoked and not just increased.

She said in order to do that, her office filed the motion paperwork with the 86th District Court on Tuesday. Since Gille’s case was assigned to Hon. Judge Michael Stepka, there will be a hearing on the bond set in his courtroom.

“He (Gille) is entitled to bond. That said, it could have been set higher,” said Moeggenberg. “The motion to revoke is based on the gestures he made. If he hadn’t done that, the motion would only have been to increase bond and additional protective conditions.”

To compare, UpNorthLive looked into other criminal cases we’ve reported on where the defendant’s bond was also set at $100,000 cash surety.

Stabbing 11 people is a definite risk to the public and should be held in jail to protect
the public. Anyone who gives this maniac bond is a simpleton judge…

I'm definitely with the prosecutor on this. The liberal coddling has got to stop. Be absolutely positive this idiot doesn't get out in public again. Not "we think no one will pay". I see what passes for justice in your state and I am sorry.

I didn’t see the gesture- put the video out for the public too see what your talking about – I watched it live ! I wanna see – I agree – ☝️ he is a victim of the system SYSTEM FAILURE of someone who is clearly mentally unstable and ill -never gave him long term service after the family advocated for him – all that mental health money 🤑 went to fraud! – good job 👏 judge 👩‍⚖️ $1 million bail -still little to late ⏰ but the first bail amount was a spit in the victims and community faces
