The dots moving through the circles and the square in the end was so amazing. It almost looks like the dots are carving wave pools through the circles, or like a rubber band is stretched around the dots. I stared at it for a while, and I am also high as a kite, as one does watching these videos, and I noticed a pattern. It seems like the “lines” connecting the dots are simply the after image effect of the bright white lines that are being erased by the circles. In our eyes, or our brain at least, that white line is extremely bright compared to that grey background. Especially when we’re not focusing on the white line, the sudden loss of exposure likely induces our brain to interpret it as being extremely dark now, and compared to the bright white it IS extremely dark. The change in darkness was definitely a lot, which could be easily misinterpreted especially by the periphery cells of our eyes, which are mostly rods, and designed to detect motion, and black and white more than color, and also not detail. I could write a whole essay on this bruh omg. The ability of the eyes to detect motion is evolutionarily advantageous, most especially in our periphery, hence why the effect is enhanced when you focus in the middle of the square and rely on rods to “see” this white line disappearing. Due to this, our brain over darkens it for an instant of interpretation, and it happens to align with another pattern that our brain decides to settle on, which is motion! Something our periphery is designed to notice. Our brain invents this moving “dark line” that I see as wave pools or a rubber band, then quickly reinterprets the illusory“dark line” as the light grey of the circle, which is slightly brighter than the black background. That’s how I see it. Also, sorry for that 🤓
