Unearthing a Rare Bootleg of Television with Brian Eno | Poetic Wax

Poetic Wax | May 8, 2025

In light of the passing of Tom Verlaine on January 28, 2023, Andy from the FensePost Indie Music & Vinyl Blog looks at his demo bootleg copy of Television with Bryan Eno by Television on Pentagram Records. He shares a backstory of the demos and how they came to fruition as well as some of the influence Verlaine and Television had on artists and subgenres following the release of their legendary punk album Marquee Moon in 1977.

Often featuring a slew of incorrect information, Andy breaks down fact from fiction on his LP, which is often dubbed “1974, Hollywood Session Live At The ‘Fairland Studios,'” noting that Brian Eno did not lend vocals or keyboards. The demo recordings were set up by then Island Records A&R head Richard Williams with Eno, Television, and engineer John Fausty with Williams booking space at Good Vibrations Studio in New York near Times Square.

Tom Verlaine was considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and Television’s Marquee Moon is often among the list of the best and most influential albums of the 1970s.
