Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Unveils Star-Studded Class of 2025 Inductees
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced its Class of 2025 inductees, featuring a vibrant mix of legendary artists and trailblazers who have left an indelible mark on the music landscape. This year’s roster includes rock icons like Bad Company, Joe Cocker, and Soundgarden, alongside pop powerhouse Cyndi Lauper and hip-hop pioneers OutKast. Rounding out the lineup are garage rock duo The White Stripes and the dance king himself, Chubby Checker.
John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, praised this eclectic group, stating, “Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever.” He emphasized how these artists have given voice to generations and inspired countless musicians to follow in their footsteps.
The 2025 ceremony will take place on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Fans can tune in for the live-streamed event on Disney+, with a broadcast to follow on ABC. Historically, this event has been a reunion paradise, breathing life back into dormant acts. A particularly exciting scenario is a potential White Stripes reunion—16 years after Meg White and Jack White last took the stage together. However, Meg’s preference for privacy may dampen those hopes.
The Hall is also recognizing exceptional contributors to the music community beyond performers. Salt-N-Pepa and the legendary Warren Zevon will receive the Musical Influence Award, while influential figures such as Philly soul maestro Thom Bell, keyboard legend Nicky Hopkins, and Wrecking Crew bassist Carol Kaye will be honored with the Musical Excellence Award. Former Warner Bros Records president Lenny Waronker will take home the prestigious Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Despite the celebratory announcement, this year’s nominations were not without controversy. Some notable snubs include Phish—who won the annual fan vote—and influential bands like Joy Division/New Order and Oasis, as well as pop sensation Mariah Carey. The exclusion of Phish may not sit well with their dedicated fan base, while Joy Division/New Order’s continued omission stings, given their significant role in shaping the ’80s rock and synth-pop sound.
While the Hall seeks to honor the living legends, the spotlight inevitably shines on the potential reunions. Soundgarden, still reeling from the loss of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017, will make their first collective appearance since December 2024 when they performed as Nudedragons. The event promises a glimpse into the future while acknowledging the pain of their past.
The induction of OutKast offers an exciting opportunity for a potential reunion of the groundbreaking hip-hop duo. However, André 3000 has expressed ambivalence about revisiting past glories, stating in a recent interview, “I’m not a big fan of looking back. I’m just not.” Fans may need to temper their expectations for a live performance from this iconic pair.
For Chubby Checker, the recognition is long overdue. After years of eligibility since 1984 and sending a passionate letter to the Hall in 2002, he finally shares the spotlight with his contemporaries. His legacy includes classics like “The Twist” and “Let’s Twist Again,” and he has passionately urged for acknowledgment of his impact on the industry.
Cyndi Lauper’s induction comes hot on the heels of her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, an emotional end to a remarkable career. “I am so grateful to my fans for my career,” she recently expressed, emphasizing the heartfelt connection she shares with her audience.
