Native Bidaské with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland

Native News Online | April 20, 2025

In May of this year, the United States Department of the Interior released the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative Investigative Report, a 106-page report unveiling the details for the first time that the federal government operated or supported 408 boarding schools across 37 states between the years 1819 and 1969.
At the time of the report’s release, the Interior Department announced “The Road to Healing” tour to be held at various locations in Indian Country. So far, there have been two stops on the tour–in Oklahoma and Michigan.
Join Native News Online Editor Levi Rickert and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland (Laguna Pueblo) as they discuss what has happened on “The Road to Healing” so far and what is to come in the future.
