On Monday, Hulu premiered Chefs vs. Wild, a new cooking show that combines 16 seasoned chefs with 10 highly-trained survivalists in the British Columbia wilderness.
Join Native News Online Editor Levi Rickert and Staff Reporter Darren Thompson as they have a conversation with the show’s co-host Valerie Segrest (Muckleshoot Indian Tribe) and one of the chefs competing on the show, Chef Nico Albert (Cherokee Nation), about the Indigenous food sovereignty influence on Chefs vs. Wild.
Segrest serves as a co-host of the exciting show. She is a nutrition educator who specializes in local and traditional foods. She is co-founder and director of projects at Tahoma Peak Solutions LLC.
Albert is a self-taught chef, caterer, and student of traditional Indigenous cuisines who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Raised in California and Arizona, Nico returned to the homeland of her mother’s people and began to reestablish a relationship with her Cherokee community.
