Blondshell Unveils New Track ’23’s a Baby’

Rolling Stone | April 4, 2025

Blondshell Dives into the 20s Dilemma with "23’s a Baby"

After a tantalizing social media build-up that had fans eagerly counting down the days, Sabrina Teitelbaum, known artistically as Blondshell, has finally unveiled her latest single, “23’s a Baby.” This track, a standout from her forthcoming album If You Asked For A Picture, captures the chaotic whirlwind of navigating one’s twenties with a signature blend of introspection and infectious melody.

Opening with a propulsive drum fill that immediately pulls you into its groove, “23’s a Baby” layers a slick guitar riff over the tumult of youthful uncertainty. With lines like, “23’s a baby/Why’d you have a baby,” Teitelbaum’s lyrics reflect the tension between societal expectations and personal realities. It’s a catchy sentiment bound to resonate and linger long after your first listen.

The accompanying music video, directed by Yazz Jansen, garners inspiration from the whimsically cheeky Instagram account DILFs of Disneyland. Viewers are treated to a playful tableau wherein Teitelbaum navigates the picturesque landscapes of Central Park, stroller in hand, surrounded by an array of charismatic gentlemen—each scene capturing the duality of joy and chaos that defines her artistic vision.

In a statement about the new single, Teitelbaum mused, “The song is partially about being in your twenties and feeling like you’re supposed to know everything (your parents even had kids around that age!) yet you’re truly in the weeds trying to figure out who you are. I wanted it to have a bit of a nursery rhyme-feel. It’s a heavy subject, so it was important to have fun when we made it.” This playful approach infuses the track with a youthful exuberance that softens the gravity of its themes, making it both relatable and anthemic.

If You Asked For A Picture, set for release on May 2 via Partisan Records, will mark Teitelbaum’s second foray as Blondshell, following her self-titled debut, which turned heads and garnered acclaim in 2023. "23’s a Baby" joins the ranks of previously released singles such as “Two Times,” “T&A,” and the introspective “What’s Fair,” showcasing Teitelbaum’s evolution as an artist unafraid to explore the complexities of modern adulthood.

To support the new album, Blondshell will hit the road this spring, kicking off her tour with a release show at Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s Masonic Lodge on May 2. After winding through North America, the talented artist is gearing up for an exciting European leg, ensuring fans from both sides of the Atlantic can experience her unique blend of vulnerability and musical allure.

As we count down to the album’s release, “23’s a Baby” promises to be the soundtrack to a season filled with the highs and lows of life in your twenties—a resonant reminder that, while youth may feel fleeting, the exploration of self and the pursuit of joy remain ever vital.
