How Dicky Barrett ruined a 40-year ska-punk career in a few days

Tome | February 4, 2025

Dickie, real name Richard Michael Barrett, was born in Rhode Island 59 years ago. Coming from high school bands, he joined the punk scene in Boston, forming (and singing on) the ska-punk band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

In 2021, as Dicky Barrett refused to get vaccinated during the pandemic, he was fired from the Jimmy Kimmel show. A few days later, Rolling Stone Magazine noticed that he was the composer of an anti-vaccination song promoting Robert Kennedy Jr., a then Democrat criticized as anti-vax. The band was okay with vaccination, but not with the conspiracy theory approach, so they decided to break up.

This is the story of the rise and fall of Dicky Barrett and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
