Wolf pack and two large bull moose walking through snow-covered forest
Really nice video of the Thuja Pack this winter. And shortly after the pack went by the camera, two large bull moose sauntered by, doing a little bit of lazy sparring, if you could call it that.
The Thuja pack in this clip is 6 wolves but other footage from early winter showed the pack was ranged between 7 to 8 wolves, one of the biggest packs we are studying this winter.
We have a 1.5 year old male in the pack collared who obviously wasn’t in this video, so there are at least 7 wolves in the pack. Not sure who the possible 8th member is. Could be another yearling adult that is only loosely associating with the pack.
In this video, we can see clearly see the breeding pair, three pups, and a subordinate male wolf (likely a yearling).
The 2nd wolf to pass the camera is the breeding female and the 3rd wolf to pass the camera is the breeding male dubbed “Wolf O3S”, who we had collared up until this past spring.
The pups are the 1st, 4th, and 6th wolves to pass the camera. You can tell they are pups based on their size and facial structure.
The 5th wolf is the subordinate male. If you compare the size of the 5th and 6th wolf, you can get a good idea of the size difference between pups and adult wolves at this time of year. Pups are getting close to looking like adults but aren’t quite there!
