My So-Called Gen X Life | November 4, 2026

We were so blessed with broadcast TV back in the 80s. Don’t believe me? Check out what the networks were airing in just one week in the fall of 1986.

I just turned 49 on October 19. I am sitting here watching this looking at a lot of these stars who were around my same age then and a lot of them are dead now. A few (Like Tom Skeritt and Susan Saint James) just died very recently. It's over half over for me. Gen X will soon replace boomers!

in '86 I was 14 and lived in a place where most of us had cable. I remember watching mostly MTV (good ol days of actual music television) but I do remember passing the living room tv where my parents were. Stand around watching what was on until next commercial break. Great times!

That was amazing! I was born in 1972 and I remembered every show except Jack and Mike and Ellen Burstyn. I couldn't remember all of the cheesy nighttime movies but I recognized a ton of actors from them. This was a wonderful trip down memory lane. ❤

What a trip down memory lane? Can't remember how long it's been since networks carried first run shows on Saturdays. Forgot completely that Golden Girls was on the Saturday night lineup.

Wow! The drama! The high jinx! The pathos! The kookiness! The insert-topic-here never seen before on tv! A lot of epic shows ran that year with a lot of actors/actresses that have just recently passed. What was once an ordinary week everyone in America had in common is history. I miss the routine, if The Cosby Show is on it’s Thursday and tomorrow’s Friday, if Hill Street Blues is on next then it’s time for bed.
