That was kind of a terrible interview. I think what works so well with the channel 5 interview formula in terms of getting a look into what people are thinking and saying and feeling about things is that they are most often caught in places where they are willing to give a lot of information, or, conversely, there is some expert in a field that Andrew will let talk about something, but like… obviously the corrupt PM of a country with deep mafia ties is not going to give straightforward answers, especially to so many disconnected questions. Idk. I feel I gleaned nothing new from that interview besides "Edi Rama is hiding something," which is something we have all known forever. Just a slightly different approach to the interview style would have lead to far more interesting answers; in fact, if it had been more the style of Andrew's sort of "hallmark" interview where he barely says anything and just lets people talk, that would have given quite a lot. There were lots of heavily leading questions though. It was structured more like an interview meant to waste his time, and he certainly felt like that, regardless of if he was trying to pose the interview as a waste of time in order to disregard the things Andrew tried to bring up. Especially the questions at the end. Was it entertaining? Definitely. But, I think that it was also kind of a big wasted opportunity for some actual journalism to go on. There is perhaps a fine line between this style of interview and what channel 5, to my knowledge, is trying to do, which is to have interviews without all of the "fluff." Maybe they both can appear to be "real, raw, unfiltered" journalism, but this was definitely very filtered journalism, even if the filter does happen to be a one that I agree with myself.
