When Republican voters went to the polls, they were asked to think about Trump. I am genuinely relieved that so many chose to put democracy first.

I sincerely hope that, little by little, you American citizens will regain faith in your country and its future. I also hope that those of us in the rest of the world will once again be able to look to America with trust and confidence.

The road ahead will undoubtedly be difficult, and rebuilding trust will take time, courage and commitment.
