James Rolfe reviews Street Fighter (2026), the new live-action adaptatoin after seeing it in theaters. Is this the Street Fighter movie fans have waited for? James also compares it to the 1994 Street Fighter movie with Van Damme and Raul Julia, and to the new Mortal Kombat movies as well.

From what I hear online sounds like I am in the minority. I loved this it was everything I wanted from Street Fighter. It was over the top and funny. Even though I suspect we won't get a sequel I am happy how this ended. I will be mad that Mortal Kombat got a seuel. A kreate a karachter kills Goro before the tournament and has literal plot armor. We got that instead of Johnny Cage but that got a sequel.

The movie was a 6.5 / 10. They marketed it as full on campy, but it was actually very serious for much of the movie which I liked. When the campy parts show up randomly it throws you off. It so jarring and changes the tone completely. That is what I didn't like the most. The comedic timing was off and the references didn't hit because of the tonal shifts. I hated they was they implemented some of the special moves, in the middle of a good, realistic fight scene we get stop motion hurricane kick???? The 720 spin kick from Assassin fist is preferred. There was a lot this movie did wrong but the parts there did right were VERY GOOD!

I believe the movie could have been a 9 /10 if they had kept it serious with smart humor and more sublet callback and nods to the games and previous movies. With that being said I look forward to a sequel and hope Street Fighter II will be better than Street Fighter 😁

I went in expecting to hate this movie but I think I loved it. All the nods to other Street Fighter media and the lore really worked for me. I hope it does well enough to get a second one. I want to see Sagat on the big screen.

The movie started out very entertaining but lost its momentum because of too many jumps. Less is more sometimes. It was decent, and honestly, I expected worse. I was afraid the movie would take itself too seriously, but thankfully, it mostly didn't. However, a lot of things could have been improved. The Assassin's Fist cast suited it better, and it's a pity Guile was turned into a laughing stock. I also wouldn't have left the ending so extremely open-ended; it would have been better to close it with the Street Fighter theme. I guess Bison will get a visual upgrade later on, but I wasn't a big fan of his design so far. How pointless was Chun-Li's brand mark? She couldn't use it to her advantage at all. I was also hoping for a great moment for Dan, since he is always underestimated. The anime flashbacks were really cool and on point. Cammy was completely out of her mind; I didn't always get what she was doing. I laughed several times and was mostly entertained. I really enjoyed the irony regarding the fighters' clichés (like Ryu being the lone wanderer… who ends up having no desire to walk after all), and it was also cool that many fight moves and scenes from the games and anime were used. But if the creators had focused more on something like Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, it definitely wouldn't have hurt.

Agree it was fun. I don't know why people expected a serious masterpiece of a movie. Biggest gripe, I agree, was Guile. They kinda made him a parody character when he's not really that.

"They got it as close as you want" …..lol

This movie is the equivalent of the dragon ball live action….Complete dog sht, couldn't wait for end. The best parts are the animated parts and then back to the live action cartooney and cringe tone of it. The movie is a parody of SF

The movie is shit. M. Bison is a disgrace. A stupid ass movie plagued by bad jokes, made for kids, aimless plot, unfinished story, bad fight choreographies. This is GARBAGE. And the scene of Ken resurrecting Ryu by singing to him is one of the CRINGIEST MOMENTS IN CINEMA

It's pretty bad in my opinion. Awful plot, terrible dialogue, cringe worthy marvel-esqe jokes, and too much CGI. Hugely disappointing, considering how well Mortal Kombat 2 translated to screen.

I'd stick with the 1994 animated movie. For those that haven’t seen it, its a must-watch. Still unbeaten in terms of quality, and faithful to the source material.

Street Fighter is a serious dark tone with slight comedic relief, like Dan, but even he has a dark past, because he fights because he honors his father's death. Get serious, but with slight comedic tone. Slight,

This was a great and fun film. People are over analyzing it not realizing it’s to appease the 10 year olds in all of us. I was impressed with Noah Centineo as Ken. He stole the show. A+
