Americans Can No Longer Afford Housing β€” So They’re Moving Into RVs…

A Homestead Journey | October 21, 2026

The housing crisis is pushing more Americans to rethink what it means to have a home. As housing costs, rent, and everyday expenses continue to rise, some people are turning to RV living as an alternative. But is this becoming a temporary solution, or a sign of something much bigger happening across America?

I grew up living in a trailer, loved it, loved rain storms because sound of rain hitting roof was like inside a drum. Also loved sound of squirrels running across roof. But that was in the 1960s long before meth heads took over trailer parks. If you are retiree consider volunteer work at national parks, you would get a place to park your RV while volunteering.

Rvs are extremely high maintenance. Never ever let your roof start leaking, inspect it every 6 months, and put a new finish on your roof every year and that self leveling calk biodegrades and leaks .stay on top of it .thry are NOT insulated hardly at all, which makes them hot in summer and cold in winter.

I’d argued that kids that live the tv life style would be better off than kids that live in the city

I mean look how kids are nowadays something we’ve been doing is wrong time to change it up

Go back to homeschool and live like a nomad

Thirty years ago I was so broke I lived out of my Mustang in a 24 hour McDonald's parking lot. Be grateful you have an RV. Get your act together and stop blaming everybody else but whose responsible, YOU.
Work 40 years and be grateful you have something to show for it.

you are golden. This is the best thing, you and especially your children will learn so much, stuff is not happy. Keep it simple, minimise stuff. you will be fine and even ahead, even if it's only a humble spirit

We have no freedom. Move to a developing country where you can slowly build yourself a structure to house yourself similar to how they do in Mexico. You can’t even afford to get through permitting in the United States.

WRONG!!!! This is the only housing they can and could ever afford. NOW they can stay out debt and build their home. The debt system is the problem. Everyone has been brainwashed to keep using the debt system. Stop it!
