I was first wondering why you choose Evel Knievel. But when the anti drug talk and how he used his failures to built himself up i slowly saw the point that came at the end and Knivels glimmer disapered and my current cynic saw those failed jumps more like planned failures. But he did break the most bones ever cant take that away from him.

20:40 another reference to Evel Knievel (I assume) is dare-devil Lance Murdock in the Simpsons. A lot of what was said about Knievel in this video made me think of that character

My uncle on Dad's side was a consulting hydraulics engineer for Bob Truax who built the "jet cycle"
Didnt have a lot good to say about Evil, but had a signed helmet that was the SH$T when I was in school.

I knew Evel back in the day…. In about 1982 I bought a few storage units from him filled with his tour stuff…. He needed money…He frequented a bar I owned in Tucson.….. also, we need to talk an out his alcoholism. He drank vodka like a fish…. Thus the liver issues.

I think it's unfair and disrespectful to call EK a loser. People who take big risks know failure and crashes are part of the game. They have an uncanny way of dealing with fear and somehow push through it. I've had mountain bikers on my podcast who are very much this way. They aren't losers. They push boundaries for us all to see just what is possible.

There were a couple biographies of him written….he was a con man, liar, alcoholic self-promoter who ruined most every relationship he'd ever had. And a gifted showman. Like the band KISS, he was inexplicably on half the kids' lunchboxes in America. This was when pro wrestling was a backwater local thing.

There is a recent film with Evel, portrayed by Ben Foster. It is about his rivalry with Ken Carter, a Canadian stunt driver. It is a comedy and is called The Stunt Driver. Worth watching.
