Eve 6 Was King—Then One Album Destroyed Everything
This week, we dive into the meteoric rise and chaotic commercial collapse of Eve 6, the Southern California trio who conquered alternative radio before they even graduated high school. From their early days as teenage prodigies signed to RCA Records to the massive success of their multi-platinum self-titled debut, we explore the internal friction and external pressures that derailed their momentum. We’ll break down the story behind the number one hit “Inside Out,” the prom-night legacy of “Here’s to the Night,” and the disastrous recording sessions for “It’s All in Your Head” that led to their brutal major label firing. We also cover the band’s toxic 2004 breakup in Florida and Max Collins’ bizarre, viral second act as a social media cult hero. Kindly like and subscribe – it really helps this channel a lot. I do appreciate it!

This VST plugin, The Stereo Sound Extractor, is BADASS -I coded it up from over 10 year’s hard research. It won awards. Now you can own it for the paltry sum of $29. Yup, I’m basically giving it away: https://burninguitfiddle.gumroad.com/l/rbiuu

I don't get why bands end up hating the very music they wrote and run themselves into the ground. I get wanting to evolve but alienating your fans isn't going to help you.

These guys I DID hear about for a minute or two way back when. Still not into their music, however. That being said, another great GMS video and story. Keep 'em coming! 🤘

I still think it's all in your head is their best album. Think twice is very lyrically heavy. That was what got me into them

This band never hit it big outside the US because they aren't good enough. They only made it in the US because the drummer was the son of Don Was. A perfect example of nepo babies.

Thank you GMS, for continuing to educate me on all these bands I’ve barely heard of but snobbishly rejected at the time because they weren’t Yes, Rush, or Genesis…(lol, I’m a stubborn classic rock/prog pr!ck!).

My first concert was Eve 6 and third eye blind 😂. Convinced this big guy to pick me up to crowd surf and some guy punched me while I was surfing 😂. I didn’t even notice it but my friend saw it so didn’t do any damage. I might have kicked his gf or something.

We are getting a few monster drummers lately. Love it, drummers get the shaft usually when it comes to the band. Here On YouTube, Guitar Meets Science lets us in on the deets of this overplayed band, with the info we don't always get to hear. True Fans may know, but most of us just go by the radio, and wonder WTF happened to the bands we get sick of hearing. Love this place. The Channel is always worthy of your time.

3:37* Nuclear Assault was triggered by this
Edit: actually a happier ending than I expected. The formula these bands usually follow results in disaster but eve6 negotiated that critical danger pretty well. I guess adapting is the key

I was in Memphis in 03 or 04 and seen them advertised at a theater on Beale Street. My only thought was 'they're still around?' Inside Out is the only song from them that was ever played and if you asked me yesterday to name a song from this band, all I could answer is the blender song. You mentioned the title in this video and I will probably forget it tomarrow.

You know as soon as GMS says a band wanted to become 'serious artistes', the nose dive, and crash and burn is inevitable, lol.

October 17, 2026 at 3:50 pm
Get out of my head dude! I had a random thought wondering if you had done a video on eve 6 when that song inside out came on the radio in the work truck today, around noon today, and then today you post one hours later. Fucking weirding me out, like you and your whole channel are just bots crafted for me.

This is a deep cut into my early teen years. I haven't heard that bandname since. Through multiple half dead braincells you have conjured up a distant memory of a mid song that I never loved nor hated. It 2as just a thing on the radio. I'm not all the way through the video yet, but I think it might be the rendezvous then I'm through with you song.
Keep up the good work Guitar Meets Science.
