"The idea that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is causing a degradation of language skills and exaggerating illiteracy is a growing concern among educators, linguists, and technologists. While AI tools like ChatGPT, autocorrect, and predictive text offer unprecedented convenience, critics argue they may be weakening our independent writing and critical thinking abilities."
And there is already a lot of talk of an "illiteracy crisis" so funnily enough at this stage they are slowky erasing their own language, at least beyond its most basic level

"Japan has a long-standing tradition of honoring worn-out or broken tools through memorial services rooted in Shinto animism—the belief that physical objects can acquire a spirit or soul (such as tsukumogami) after years of faithful use"
I think most people can at least relate a little to this sense when it comes to "favorite objects" that have a personal history.
It's not only that museums put Native Americans into a context of "extinct species", it's the conceptual base of putting them next to Fantasy characters as a costume in fiction most prominently Western movies which basically portrait a Simulacrum that has barely anything to do with that very short period in time called "The Old West" that lasted 30- 50 years max.
When it comes to "Native Americans did this or that" the first question is "Which ones? When? Do they still?"

Luckily Science has developed a sunless solution against Melanin loss:
"Melanotan is an unapproved synthetic hormone used to darken skin and trigger tanning without sun exposure"
The before and after photos show amazing results haha people go nuts with the Peptides

Several times throughout this episode I had to rewind what was said, and then pause and sit with your analysis. I'll avoid adding a mountain of text and point out some of the topics that I really enjoyed:
– Language as a reflection of worldviews and culture; describing life in motion vs. objects (and my personal grievance: the focus on gender in romance languages vs. my preference for the tertiary focus on gender in my family's African language).
– How museums relegate Indigenous stories to relics of the past and objects detached from meaning in our lives. This framing fits in with the capitalist imperative for overconsumption and trends; it's easy to constantly "reinvent" ourselves through clothing, cookware, home renovations, technology, etc. when we maintain shallow relationships with these new family members.
– Indigenous futurisms being a return to who we are.
I really enjoyed this episode and now plan to read the book! Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
