Galaxie: How Blind Melon Killed Their Image and the “No Rain” Hangover

Blind Melon fought to escape the “No Rain” shadow, dismantling their own image to create Soup. The band’s massive success with their debut single often overshadowed their artistic intent. Tracing the band’s evolution from the commercial heights of their 90s alternative rock breakthrough to the complex, raw sound found on their follow-up record, it’s time to zero in on Soup’s first single, “Galaxie.”

Drawing from rare interviews from 1995 and the aesthetic choices surrounding Soup, Blind Melon actively rejected the public perception forced upon them. And it took a toll on the entire and, most notably frontman Shannon Hoon.
