Judas Priest Will NEVER Be The Same Again

Rock Feed | October 11, 2026

Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill, the band’s last original member, is retiring after 56 years.

In a personal letter posted October 9, 2026, Hill says advanced arthritis and a tendon he snapped in his left shoulder at the Brussels show ended his run. Uriah Heep and Elegant Weapons bassist Davey Rimmer, who covered the London show, is his permanent replacement. Hill already recorded his bass parts for the next album, and Priest returns in June 2027 in Oslo, Norway.

It's tough aging. I guess Rob's time is ticking. Will they replace him and keep going with no real members a la Foreigner? AKA Paul and Gene's dream of people going to see them but they're not even there?

The most silent and unsung rock legend ever. True legend. You will be missed but deserve a great and blessed retirement. Thank you! Wrt the thumbnail, Priest will go on in the good hands of Rob and co. If Rob retires then there's still Scott, Richie and Andy to possibly usher in a "new generation" Judas Priest! Maybe see the return of Tim?Many will still support this.

I'm a life long metal head and Priest holds more slots in my collection than any other. Rob's hiatus and KK leaving on bad terms are the only two instances that messed with me. Glenn, and now Ian, have medical issues that warrant a blameless stepping out. I'm the same age as Scott Travis. Fortunately, he's a big stud and I don't see him going out anytime soon. And if Ian popped a bicep tendon up by the shoulder, don't skip the surgery. I blew a bicep tendon and after a year had the surgery while I still could and I'm glad.

for me they are not the same since Turbo lover ….i'm a fan of the old era….but they made good songs after also ….but never keep the interest….too much music/too much bands/ others sometimes more interesting ( matter of taste)

Happy retirement! Ian more than put in his time. It’s hard to let it go, I’m sure, but he will always be a rocker. I hope he passes his love of bass down to his family now that they’ll be spending more time together.

no big deal. many other bass players who'll perform better on stage. More showman ship. Ian was boring and his parts were boring. sorry. but i respect he's been a part of them since the beginning
