It’s Cinemassacre’s Monster Madness XX: Trick or Treat! This year I’m covering movies that take place on Halloween. Night of the Demons (1988) is a cult 80s favorite from director Kevin Tenney. A group of teenagers throw a Halloween party at Hull House, an abandoned funeral home, and hold a séance that wakes up a demon. One by one, the partygoers get possessed. It’s loaded with practical effects, scream queen Linnea Quigley, and Halloween atmosphere. Let’s take a look.

I love this movie! I must have hardly been 12 when I first saw it one late night on cable. I could not remember the name of it for decades, always wanting to rewatch it. It isn't the greatest movie made at all by any means but it has everything you'd want in a 'not so serious' halloween horror flick.

When i was growing up, my friends and I would spend some weekends going to the video store in town (the independent one, not blockbuster), and pick our horror movies based on the box art. You'd better believe that we saw this one and the 2nd one (which I think we saw first), along with some other gems.

One of my earliest horror movie memories, I was at my aunts house with my older brother and older cousins, not sure what our parents were doing. I remember at 6 years old in prob 94’ or 95’ I saw the Linea Quigley scene with the lip stick. Needless to say it never left me. I love this movie so much and you’re right it still stands up today.

Love this movie had it on VHS along with Return of the Living Dead III, and a bunch of others. Part 2 is really good too
Christine Taylor's character Terri: "Sister, is it a sin to kiss a boy? I mean if you really really like him.
Sister Gloria: "A kiss is a sin when it is an upper persuasion for a lower invasion."

    Epic line

IMO this is the way to do a demon movie, it's a phantasy horror which I like, but also a slasher architecture, vs the demon possession movies. This movie is just awesome.

I really love these and I'm glad MM is still a thing, but it would be so much better if it wasn't just still frames for most of it. Show the actual clips, you talk over them, it's transformative it's fair use, don't know what you're afraid of.

I remember watching this movie as a kid back in the 80's along with Hellraiser. The litpstick scene in this movie was disturbing enough that I couldn't watch the rest of movie even though I had just watched Hellraiser.

Love the flick. I can still picture the poster for the movie in the window of the local "mom and pop" video store called "Movies and More" back in 1988. I was 10 years old and dad rented the film. He would try and cover my eyes during the nude bits. Good memories. Fun flick.

Thanks, James, for another nostalgic look at an 80's horror classic. Right off the bat, you addressed the title confusion with other films (Night Of The Demon, Night Of The Demons, etc.) which I thought was great. I was pretty sure that I was remembering the correct film from 1985, but like you said, the titles could be confusing.
