Ranking Every Beatles Album By Its Worst Song

Mic The Snare | October 10, 2026

The Beatles made some of the greatest albums and songs of all time… but what about their misses? I’m ranking every Beatles album by its worst song, from A Hard Day’s Night and Rubber Soul to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. Along the way, we’ll explore the stories behind some of the Beatles’ most disliked and controversial songs. And by the end, I’ll have made an album ranking that would offend God. Let’s go!

I dunno if this was actually part of the National Curriculum back in the 1980s, but we were taught "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "Yellow Submarine" in music lessons in junior school.

14:25 I strongly disagree with this take, I've seen it so many times. Songs are fictional. When a horror movie comes out nobody blames the director or actors for it being "off-putting" because the disturbing content is the whole POINT. Songs are not necessarily personal statements that reflect on their authors, they can just depict a certain emotion or theme. The content of Run for Your Life is very disturbing, but all of the Beatles would have obviously agreed. People talk about this song as if John Lennon would have had no idea that its message was problematic! The song is written from the perspective of a man insane with jealousy, which John may have related to on some level, but the narrator of the song is a fictional person who was written (and "acted") by John Lennon.

You should do a Deep Discog Dive on the Isley Brothers. The fact the band is still around today and is influential to acts like The Beatles, and at one point had Jimi Hendrix as a member, means they deserve a video dedicated to their discography

Just got recommended this channel by the algorithm. Interesting concept, even if I did spend the video wondering where Mister Moonlight was.

I really like Good Morning Good Morning, and wonder if it would have gone over better on an album that didn't have A Day In The Life, which does the same thing but better?

I love the ironic juxtaposition between the banality of the "happy commercial music" and the darkness of the verses, eg.: "Nothing to do to save his life, call his wife in. Nothing to say but what a day. How's your boy been?"

One of the first times I totally disagree with you. Blue Jay Way is for me personally, a track I always go back to. Check it out in the right setting Mike! Late night drive home in some foresty area, you deserve to really like this song.

13:45 To play devil's advocate, John wrote the song in reference to the Elvis song "Baby, Let's play house" which features the lyrics: "I'd rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man".

Which does mean it could've just been a creative exercise for him. Nothing more, nothing less. I do however think it's equally important to place the song in the context of his character. That Lennon, a mentally ill man with abusive traits, found inspiration in an especially questionable Elvis line. Could've been that he simply acted tastelessly and didn't think much of it, could've been that he actually related to the sentiment.

In any case, how dare you diss George's guitar?? Lennon's a sociopath, sure, but the guitar on that song fucking slaps!

i have such mixed feelings on maxwell's silver hammer because when i was a kid growing up listening to my dad's beatles cds i thought i was so fun to listen to! and i didn't understand much english at that point 😭 as i got older and learned english i thought the murder theme was very funny, now as a progressive adult it does feel pretty cursed but i definitely enjoy it way more than octopus' garden
