About halfway through this video, YouTube played an ad where I watched in horror as this “artist” took a functioning $400-$500 vintage portable color CRT, gutted it, tossed the electronics and hardware in the trash and turned it into a $20 fish tank. I was too horrified to hit skip and it had bothered me for like ten minutes and I have to keep telling myself that it was AI generated and wasn’t real.

That CRT TV unit is MAGNIFICENT. Like you really don't see anyone with a unit like that anymore especially in the Youtube space. It's either a professional grade monitor or an everyday CRT. But that BEAST really was a sign you'd "made it" in the 90s and early 00s, such a big screen and a matching storage stand. I positively salivated over many Comet and Currys magazines with images like that when I was a child.

I had a similar background as well… Win 3.x then Win95 (during elementary school), then dual-booting NT4 and Linux (middle school), then 2K and Linux (during high-school). Also started with QBasic, but then moved to C during 6th and 7th grade (first with TurboC then moved to Cygwin), … In my case, I am an aging millennial… Most of my projects are a bit more obscure and tend to be much more "technical esoteria" though…

I always did wonder if you could do this. Put Windows on an NES/SNES/GEN cartridge and use with the controller ports a keyboard and mouse (like SNES Mouse) accessory to turn it into a computer.

De-fragging a SEGA console cartridge? Only MerkySlop could produce an OS capable of bringing the Gennesis/Mega Drive to its knees. Mikeyeldey obviously knows his way around the hardware enough to provide a superior experience when you need to defrag. It's now safe to turn your console off, that reassuring message you are finished with the tech for today.

Why do i find this video so interesting, i never had a SEGA system. Although i had Windows… 95

Using a gaming console as a home computer is actually not novel. That was literally the Famicom, what the Nintendo entertainment system was known as in Japan. When the NES ship in America, it was stripped down to just be a gaming console, but the Famicom could accept disk drives, mice, keyboards etc. and they made various productivity software for it. I always thought that would be so fun, like filling out a spreadsheet on my Nintendo. God I was a boring kid 😂

is there a rom floating around of this?
i would very well like to know if this cart would work and if it would detect if it is running on a PAL, PAL-J or NTSC or NTSC-J console and display the correct info on the booting up animation.
at lest such feature is possible on Mega Drive, since same rom of Streets of Rage will show it's Japanese title Bare Knuckle, if you set your emulator into Japan region or if you take your cart and connect it to Japanese console through an adapter.
Edit: sure enough. i got further in the video and it was answered for me, and yes it definitely knows if it is being played on NTSC or PAL system.
