i grew up for most of my childhood in a sort of khrushchevka/brezhnevka hybrid (it had 10 floors, two elevators – big one for furniture, smaller one for people, but you could ride either, communal balconies, short 2.5m ceilings where my tall asf dad had to duck under doorways and smallish apartments). i'm not russian, but croatian, though due to us being under communist yugoslavia for decades we have a lot of the same things russia has, like these apartment blocks (mamutica or the mammoth being the most famous, it holds about 5000 people in a 19 floor, 240m long and 60m tall tank of a building).

mine wasn't nearly as big, but we had two good 100-120m stretchez of 35m tall apartment buildings. in between them was a plateau with circle-shapped benches and graffitied walls. we had a library, a convienience store, a bank, a gym, a drugstore, basically everything you'd need. nearby were a school and a kindergarten, a nursing home, a post office, a football stadium that i saw everytime i looked out the window and heard every goal score when there were games, a park, a playground, a dog park and the zoo was right across the street (atp anyone from zagreb knows exactly where im talking about).

it was sorta nice sometimes but there was that perpatual sort of melancholy in the fall/winter seasons. my boyfriend grew up in a house and he was always jealous of the people who lived in huge buildings, meanwhile i moved from the 17th floor (as a baby, i don't really remember it) to the 9th floor to the 3rd floor and was always jealous of people who lived in houses. having your own room where nobody else's stuff was and only you slept there was insane to me as a kid. also the concept of having your own backyard to play and your very own garage and your own basement that has more than 15sqft of space.

for me, winter feels less lonely as it does a blanket of sleep. especially at night. I remember sneaking out during the winter months to the front yard (I lived in one of those cul-de-sac places, so cars very rarely drove by) and just.. sat. Its that comfort of knowing everyone was asleep, comfortable in their bed, and I was one of the only people still awake. It was a view only I got, something unique to me. I was alone, but it wasnt really lonely. Thats why I love winter nights. The human fact that when it gets cold, our first urge is to just crawl into bed, leaving the roads bare and snow covered.

3:38 those building apartments will always be weirdly homely to me as a British person. These people probably have the same money our family does but completely different homes.

It’s the same thing as dreamcores idea. Like he said. “You’ve been here before” but you havent

You should also look up Пётр, Архивы Магнитошахтинской области. It's mostly canon to the Магнитошахтинская область channel, it's not a copycat. There's SO much more to sink your teeth into.

    5:32 haha yeah, "shift" 😂
Almost a century of defending our allies and the cold war to suddenly telling them to eat s*it and bending over and presenting to Russian authoritarianism and not risking upsetting daddy Putin 😂
We've always done shady stuff, toppling democratically elected leaders, Iran contra running guns and coke, illegal wars, but we slways stood beside our allies and weren't just a plutocratic oligarchy willing to sell out everyone and everything for ego, political cults and money
