Street Fighter 2 exploded into arcades back in the early 90’s and changed gaming forever. Ken, Ryu, Chun-Li and Guile were suddenly household names.

The Street Fighter 2 roster of characters were even added to the GI Joe line of action figures.

The brand was so hot and so well-known that a movie seemed inevitable. And it was but a funny thing happened on the way to the movie theater.

Street Fighter starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue opened in 1994 and did… okay.

But the Street Fighter brand? It’s done just fine.

I was with street fighter since part to hit up the arcade and it along with final fight were the second and third SNES games I got. Unfortunately it would be a while at least in kid time for me to get a new street fighter game which was…..Street Fighter The Movie:the game for the sega Saturn 😞

I got into the series with SFII. I don't remember specifically when, but I do remember going to the movie theater by my house around the time the arcade was popular and saw as a teenage girl (I didn't realize how amazing that was then) was playing as Chun-Li and her little brother kept asking her to do the move where she could throw her spiked bracelets. I had already played enough (and Chun-Li was also my favorite character) to know that wasn't real, but she played it off nonchalantly by saying that she needed to do some special control motions and would see if she could make it happen. Not only was it one of the first instances I could remember of seeing a female gamer, but it was also the first time I recognized someone actively trolling.

I miss that time so much.

This is just my opinion but only good two street 2 moive anime one and the other that was live action called StreetFighter: Assassin's Fist that came out in 2014. It was more ture to lore I felt.
Toys back i them were rough looking.. did nothing for me back then. It did not age well at all. Same gose for the tv show that was made in the usa. The Japanese version was better. Udon comics made great stuff with street 2 characters which in my opinion much better than stories in the game. My entire into street fighter was the gane in arcades back in the day for any one that wants to know. Fun fact street fighter 2010 came out befor street fighter 2 and main character was Ken. Keep in mind made by same people. Great video looking foward to your next street figher video. Lots my information come from the street fighter verse channel. They give deeper dive in all things street figher.

I was ~10 in 92/93 and Street Fighter 2 was popular but soon after Mortal Kombat 2 arrived it was killing it. It was considered among us kids as lvl above. Still remember gaming magazines publishing all the combos like in a chart and lots of kids in school bs-ing about impossible made up "secret" finish him movies.

I remember playing the original Street Fighter as a kid. It was ok. When Street Fighter 2 was released there were lines of kids waiting with their quarters to challenge each other.

1992… I was 11 and I would ride my bicycle to a local bar to play the game … lived close enough to Japan to get a bootleg of the animated movie not too long after it released… and have been plugged in for the most part since.

Need to watch the assassin’s fist and sequel, tho

I remember that my brother took me to a small town arcade where they had a huge collection of game machines and I cruised through the arcade for hours but one faithful day I stumbled upon Street Fighter 2 and it was awesome! Mostly because of the super cool fighting moves but I also really liked the background music too! The Street Fighter movies are also quite underrated! The original 90s one is still a huge favorite of mine and the Chun li movie is action packed and super exciting! Both films have their standout moments! I still collect Street Fighter fan art in addition to collecting games, books, toys and other fan collectibles as well! The Street Fighter spirit is strong with me! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and highlights of the history of Street Fighter! Ryu and Ken are both really iconic to me too! Thank you for sharing all these wonderful memories!
