As a trans person who has used Grindr I get unsolicited dick pics from strangers sent to me all of the time.

The reason the "Grindr crashed during RNC" meme is so funny is that Republicans often look down on LGBT people.
While US Democrat politicians aren't wonderful people either, they are at least pro LGBT for the most part, so gay people feel more welcomed there.
Meanwhile many Republican LGBT people have to hide who they are, from others and sometimes even deny it for themselves.
"DNC is more likely to crash Grindr than RNC" is basically "fork found in kitchen" type story.
Closeted gay people will break, do their deeds in secrecy and guilt – and on average they pose a danger to the community.
For one, they'll often overcompensate and become the staunchest attackers of LGBT rights.
Second – they'll try to lead heterosexual lives, inevitably fail, meaning they'll hurt their partners and perpetuate the idea that queerness is a personal failing and not just their nature, "fish tries climbing a tree, fails".
Third, since these people already operate under the perception of wrongdoing, they can more easily venture into actual wrongdoings.

It's okay to choose to remain closeted. You miss out on the joys of freedom and self expression, but that's your choice, or in some cases you kinda have to. That's fine.
I even know a religious guy that doesn't hide his sexuality, but chose to marry a religious lesbian in a non romantic, child bearing but likely sexually unfulfilled marriage. I would never, but that's their prerogative.

The problem starts when you project your self denial and insecurity onto others. When you throw other people under the bus.
And this kind of behavior stems from Republicans much more than anyone else.
So it makes the irony when they're revealed particularly delicious.

Up here in Michigan back in 2019, a man met another younger man named Kevin Bacon on Grindr. The older man would go on to end Kevin's life and cannibalize him. I remember hearing about it specifically because my partner at the time had been friends with Kevin only a few years prior. The details are grisly. I'm a little surprised you didn't cover it.

In the heat of the moment sometimes people don't think about just how dangerous anonymous hookups are. Looking back on it, I couldn't fully relax when I hooked up. I watched closely the whole time.
