Sorry, cannot agree that Bitches Brew meets the definition of Progressive Rock. Jazz Fusion, sure. No vocals, no songs, no rock, cannot add up to Prog Rock. IMO.

Road of Bones isn't a double album if you look at what the band says about it. Both discs are great, but the second one is all stuff recorded at the same time that the band felt didn't fit in with the main album and the first disc did get a standalone release. But I suppose if you ignore the fact it's not a continuously flowing concept, even though some of the songs are along similar themes, it counts and is a worthy inclusion. I think I read somewhere that even the first disc isn't really a concept album, it's just the title track that's about a serial killer, which I suppose also makes it count as a double. (I'm not getting confused with the third disc included in some releases, I do mean the second disc). Listen out for Bela Lugosi on From The Outside In.

I came to prog late in life and having to hear about these Nearfest concerts I missed out on all the time kills me😩

Hey Pete, hope you're doing well. Really enjoyed watching your channel over the past few years. Regrettably had to cancel my membership with the SOT. Will check in when possible and the best to you and yours!

My pick will be Opeth's Deliverance + Damnation, although technically not a double, it's been said it was conceived and recorded as one.

Cardiacs! Wow! Absolutely great pick, Luis! A prog album deserving of much more recognition!

I thought Tony Carey's Planet P Project's "Pink World" might sneak in there.

Does Initiation from Todd Rundgren count? It wasn't originally released as a double vinyl but was recently reissued as one. A Treatise On Cosmic Fire is now split on two sides instead of one very long, plodding song on one side.

Excellent show guys, some brilliant albums were featured.
Can’t argue with any of the picks so my honourable mention would be Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds which I think is one the best prog albums of all time. Thanks again.

I knew someone was going to pick it, and as much as I love the album (and the band) Pink Floyd is not prog. Luis and I have a lot of the same quirky tastes in bands in general, but Pink Floyd is emo yacht rock, not prog.
Great episode guys, I love the gamut of choices between you all.

Props to Dr. Nasser for Marbles. It's just behind Brave for my favorite Marillion album.

Pete is more articulate and personable live, without editing and without a script, than most people are with 200 cuts and edits in their videos while reading from a script. Nothing against those creators, I love many of them, but it's a real gift to be able to talk through what you love about a particular album as he does, all in one take with no media training that I'm aware of. And especially now with what he's been going through lately, to hardly miss a beat. He's the king of this YouTube space for a reason. Other channels can be as informative, but people subscribed in droves to SoT because of Pete as an individual first and foremost. And almost as impressive is the cast of characters he's assembled across the channel. Man, I love these guys.

This album had two SOT classics: The Astonishing being referenced and how bad it is, and Magma! 😂
Solid episode gents, and sending positive healing Vibes to you, Pete ✌️

Focus is a great band…. But for some reason, most of their albums were always in the cut out bins….

So glad that Pete showed some love for Nektar's "Sounds Like This" (my favorite Nektar album, with Tab as a close second). P.S. Yes, it was their third album, issued before Remember The Future

Great show guys. "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" is easily my favourite. Nice to see Luis mention "Marbles" and Ken mention "Incantations". I have the latter as a 76 minute single CD (including the bonus track "Guilty") but my dad used to own the double LP released in 1978 – so it deserves to count as a double album. I would also nominate "Sky 2" by Sky as a great prog double album. Again, I have it as a single CD which is nearly 80 minutes long. However, once again my dad used to own the 1980 double LP, hence it also deserves to count as a double.

I think Focus are still revered in Europe. They are touring the UK this autumn and next Spring. Jan Akkerman is also touring.

I wouldn't put The Wall in the mix.. Two great tracks packed into a double album.

Great episode! Thanks Ken for mentioning Mike Oldfield's "Incantations". My three favorite's (in no particular order) would be Aphrodite's Child "666", Genesis "The Lamb", and YES' "Tales From Topographic Oceans". I would say "Ummagumma" by Pink Floyd.

A lot Budjana tracks are pretty fluffy and offer nothing that hasn't been done quite a bit already. Haven't heard the double album featured here. Hope it's a step up from the others. As a rock guitar double album Agharta may edge out Bitches Brew, but Bitches Brew is almost certainly more historically important… gotta pull that one out again to see what new buzz might surface. Always surprised by how generic and cream of wheat some of best lists from hard core prog fans can be. A lot of em' probably think I suck because I'd pick Kraan Live (74), Trout Mask Replica, Gentle Giant Playing the Fool with Uncle Meat or Roxy and Elsewhere as honorable mentions.

While Progressive Rock and Jazz Fusion are “kissing cousins” as someone once said, Miles Davis’ electric period is Jazz Fusion not progressive rock. Part of the definition of progressive rock means classical music elements. Chicago while being “progressive” isn’t progressive rock because they lack also that classical touch.

Dirty Boy is as good a composition as anything I've heard in the prog genre, both new and old. Love Cardiacs! Tim Smith was a truly brilliant songwriter and composer. I hate comparing bands and Cardiacs are as original as it gets, but for those unfamiliar they're a bit like Gentle Giant meets Yes meets Sex Pistols.

Great video. I love Focus 3. To me it's a masterpiece and I agree with Luis. Great epic tracks. I agree with Pete about Bitches Brew. I keep hearing different things on that album and I've been listening to it since 1992. Tales from Topographic Oceans is growing on me as well. I need to explore those first two albums that George mentioned as well as Luis Cardiacs Sing to God.
