Running with Ghost: Thoughts on Skeletá

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | September 13, 2026

Skeletá – the latest album from Ghost – was released on April 25 and I was advised to listen to it on my run. I thought I’d share some of my thoughts about it with you. We haven’t played the tracks in their entirety for this review – so if you want to listen first – visit Ghost here on YouTube:

And if you have suggestions for other albums I should play on my run, leave me a comment.

    Re: Kiss comparisons…

I’m no fan of Kiss but the stage presence was always on point and Paul Stanley is a legit player, but the songs weren’t really there as much. Ghost has songs.

But then I always thought Alice Cooper was a more obvious point of comparison for Ghost.

Great band. Saw them twice on this current tour. Also loved the ‘no phone’ policy. I think with every new Papa there is a slight musical change. Skeletà is no different and is utterly superb. They have bordered on Abba metal in the past, but this one is consistently more in that vein. My faves are Lachryma and Umbra (the chorus to Umbra is immediately catchy). Credit to Opeth Fredrik Åkesson for most of the guitar work. It’s definitely sing-a-long-a rock/metal. I think the UK should ask them to be our next Eurovision entrant. They would go down a storm!

I am glad you enjoy Cenotaph as much as I do. Good to know I should be hitting with my right foot on the kick drum beats! This album is undeniably good in any setting, and it’s all I run to lately. Nice work!

Terrible album. And I’ve been a fan since Opus.

And that’s okay, because you’re not always going to like everything an artist puts out over the years.

I’m not a fan of predictable ‘80s arena dad-rock, okay?

I like dark, progressive rock and this isn’t a prog album.

And that’s okay. That doesn’t mean I ‘come from TikTok’. It makes me human with likes and dislikes.

My partner introduced me to Ghost and immediately bought tickets for their Oslo show when they went on sale and simply informed me "we're going".
Listened to them for the couple weeks prior and was into them but its a bit outside of what I usually listen to, still, excited for the show and the night out.
Well here I am a few days after the show and oh my god was it one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Ghost just do their live show on a whole other level, the set design, the band antics and audience interactions, the DRAMA
I was completely blown away and I'm still constantly thinking about it days later. Incredible band, incredible live performance, Peacefield is a MAGICAL live opening
