My theory(a poem)
## The Hidden Souls of the Street
They are dressed in bright colors to hide the heavy strings.
They sing and they dance to keep the audience entertained,
But beneath the fabric, the fur, and the fluff,
Is a world of sensitive souls who have suffered enough.
——————————
## The Chasers of Time
Elmo stands on the sidewalk, looking up at the sky,
Wishing with all his heart to grow tall and grow high.
He chases a future he can never quite touch,
Frozen at three, wanting tomorrow so much.
But inside the castle, tucked away from the crowd,
Where the thunder cracks long and the lightning is loud,
The Count counts his numbers, a solitary king,
Chasing yesterday through the comfort they bring.
He learns 1, 2, 3 just to soothe his own head,
Counting back to the youth that has long since fled.
——————————
## The Heavy Shields
Big Bird is a giant, towering high in the air,
Hiding the quiet insecurity he must constantly bear.
He sits in his nest with his small teddy bear,
Wishing to be small in a world too unfair.
And right on the pavement, out of the light,
Oscar screams "Scram!" with all of his might.
They think he is violent, they think he is mean,
But he’s the most misunderstood soul ever seen.
No monster is born full of anger and dread;
He built a metal fortress to protect where he bled.
He surrounds himself with what the world cast away,
Just hoping a friend will stand by him and stay.
——————————
## The Forced Loops
High in the air, Abby floats through the sky,
A fairy-in-training who was destined to fly.
But her magic is a barrier, a beautiful curse,
Wishing for heavy feet to walk on the earth.
While down in the bakery, frantic and wild,
Cookie Monster devours, watched by every child.
They laugh at his hunger, they turn it to praise,
But he’s trapped in a loop for the rest of his days.
Forced to consume for the entertainment of men,
Controlled by his strings to do it again.
——————————
## The Gift of Sight
The world looks at puppets and only sees play,
But you looked much deeper and saw the gray.
You saw the armor, the loops, and the fears,
And gave these lonely monsters your empathy and tears.

They claimed that the ADHD issues of children having short attention spans were thanks to Sesame Street having such short things going from topic to topic every so many seconds.

It's just too bad where Sesame Street has come to now. Rather than educating its become indoctrination and political propaganda.
Children should not be told what to think.

I grew up in Jim's era of puppetry in the last decade before he dyed and I can't understand what's the big deal of being accepted by adults. That's much harder, because adults are so serious in most eras. My parents were no different. Plus, almost every sane adult that I ever met was, too. This may be why he had so much trouble cutting through. To his credit, he did have a few successes here and there with adults, but not a whole lot.

Nobody I know understands how funny that clip of Jim Henson you use in the intro is. The dry humor in saying “I’m called a puppeteer because I work with puppets” is brilliant.

I’m GenX, child of the seventies. I loved the Muppet Show. Now I find it was British Lou Grade who made it possible? To him, and Jim, I say thank you, for your endless entertainment
