John Oliver Investigates Australian Gun Control | The Daily Show

The Daily Show | August 30, 2026

In 1996, Australia enacted sweeping gun control laws in response to a mass shooting. The result? Reduced gun violence and zero mass shootings. John Oliver went to Australia to see what Americans can learn from this endeavor… if they’re willing. #DailyShow #JohnOliver #GunControl #2013 #TDS30

Yes gun control works, it has been proven in many places around the world. Besides that though, the Second Amendment is dead. For decades Americans preached to the rest of us about that Amendment and if we disagreed we got insulted, called names, looked down on, and were told "Murica". But the reality is that they preached about that Amendment for decades, while allowing droves of innocent school children to die to keep it and they still do. But when the tike came to act they refused. ICE slaughtered people in the streets. The whole Trump regime were revealed to be lying grifting pdf files. So, the time came to act. And Americans proved that after all that preaching to the rest of us for all that time, when the time came to act, they were infact weak lying cowards all along. So, the Second Amendment is dead. Americans already proved they will not use it when they need to. They talk but never act. They do not need guns anymore.

Do not forget that when the PM before John Howard, Paul Keating, proposed gun control legislation, John Howard and his party refused to support it. It kind of makes one think that John Howard was responsible for the massacre, doesn't it?

John Howard was a pathetic weasel who sold out Australia's future and brought mercenaries onto our soil. However, that little worthless man did more than the entire GoP for public safety.

There are more guns in Australia now than when gun control was enacted after Port Arthur in 1996. The key difference is that the guns are heavily regulated, the people who are permitted to possess them are background checked and storage is inspected.
Gun's are not illegal here, neither are fireworks or other dangerous goods they are regulated, they require a legitimate reason for possession and if you qualify licensing and security clearances are required to obtain them.

There are literally African and Arab gangs in Sydney and Melbourne rocking around the suburbs with Ak-47s, Sawn off shotguns and pistols. 2 months ago a guy was arrested with a dessert eagle. Gun laws work but criminals still get guns.

Theres a reason that America had that in their constitution, its because the founding fathers were fighting tyranny, you dont need guns until you absolutely need them.
Youre not really banning guns, the government still has the guns, you just cant have it, and when the government is the problem and they have all the guns, you see the problem here.

Australia's system of gun control centres on a concept that would never succeed in the USA. There are only three justifications for the use of a rifle (Handguns are outright banned). 1. Target Shooting. 2. Hunting under supervision. 3. Feral pest control by a licensed exterminator. Under no scenario is a rifle to be used for self defence. A rifle must be stored in a gun safe, and the bolt and working parts in a separate safe. A rifle can only be transported in a locked container in a vehicle and cannot be fired in a metropolitan area other than at a range under supervision. The above makes the job of police in working out who is the bad guy. He's the gun holding a gun.
