I can empathise with OSS maintainers being overwhelmed by contributions. The solutions there are: Really robust (Agent friendly) Guidance towards standards, design patterns, testing, PR quality and expectations etc. Then also, just onboarding more trusted maintainers.
While i don't have proof, i personally get a sense that a lot of the engineers who shout loudly that AI produces complete slop are themselves not particularly great engineers. They struggled to get a chat bot to produce useful code and dismissed it. Thats because just like they are at work, they didn't do any research, learning, practice, iterative improvement, reading, more practice etc, to understand HOW to use this tool effectively, and get value, and if they can't even do that basic and see some valuable outputs from an agent, i assume that they're equally bad without AI.
If you just go to claude or gemini or gpt in a browser and start pasting code or asking it for code, its gonna 100% suck completely.

I thought, if you are fully AGI/ASI pilled why do you need a desktop OS? Okay maybe for watching Netflix all day? Ouch, no Netflix 4k on Linux. A lot of water will unfortunately have to flow down the Rhine before Linux Desktop can become mainstream

There was a great question from Lex, why aren't we seeing rapid evolution in those big every day products with AI like we'd expect to see and that was a fun discussion. A year ago i joined my first early phase startup after years in big corporates and consulting for big corporates. 90%+ of my time in those prior roles was talking, calls, explaining, deciding, arguing, seeking approvals through layers and layers. And across probably 50 companies/clients i worked with, i never once spoke to a customer/user. I never once saw a collection of user feedback. Those huge companies are so far removed from their users, perhaps they speak to their global top 5 biggest consumers but beyond them, nothing.
At the startup im at now, our internal and external users are feeding us requests, complaints, bugs, little annoyances, and they're getting them resolved within hours to at max a week for bigger things. Those users are industry SMEs with all the serious contextual knowledge, and they're guiding us engineers and agents (and taking part in the process for a few of them) in shaping our systems and product day by day. Most of those SMEs have 20 years in our industry stuck fighting shit vendor software and they've NEVER been able to request a change or give fgeedback, never mind actually get it delivered within a few days. Its blowing their minds, and they're excited now about what is possible. They're getting more and more technical, more and more clued up into HOW it works, and HOW to structure requests for change or improvement. Their language is changing to help better describe issues of UX and what they want. The eng and SME team are sending 100s of messages a day in the slack channel.
Anyway point being, minimising that gap from customer/user to implementer is key, but i do think it still needs an engineers hand to translate the want, into a consistent architectural design, especially if like us you're working with highly regulated medical, legal etc data. You can't just E2E vibe that out with non techies. The non techies don't know the extra sauce to add to feature requests to ensure things are built in certain ways for security, horizontal scale, zero trust, they dont know to add details about RBAC and logging, checkpointing, graceful failure handling, handling infra interuptions etc etc etc. Also your LLM doesn't know to do those things if you don't ask it, it doesn't assume by default you need ABC extra stuff.

The HORROR of 45 minutes if install time. I think its ridiculous to care about things like that. Usually people do not jet across the world unpacking a new Laptop every other day needing it ready in 1 minute. To me this seems like a superficialis goal he has set because he did not find anything actually meaningful to go for. Because "speed" is such a meme. I am a Apple hater, this is not about Apples install times or whatever, but I am fine if setup a new Linux Distro if it takes an hours. I am doing this maybe every 3 years. Hopefully less in the future. I am not on Fedora Kionite and I like it. I did not measure my install time but I am pretty sure the time was not that long anyway.

My experience with the amazing Qwen3.8 is that it actually exhibits curiosity. When it's waiting for something to happen, if it has another question it is wondering about, it will launch an entirely endogenous sub-project to investigate that question… I was messing with Kerbal Space Program yesterday, this morning I found my agent was studying my game files, figuring out transfer windows, investigating how wormholes worked… I'm going to have to find a way to expand its stock context window…
