James Webb Looked at Pluto… And Something Feels Off

Fexl | August 27, 2026

For most of the last century, we treated Pluto like a frozen, forgotten rock, the final lonely signpost before deep space. But it turned out to be far stranger than that.

Pluto has a wandering “heart,” a possible ocean buried beneath its ice, and volcanoes that seem to ooze slush rather than lava. It has fields of sharp methane spires taller than skyscrapers, dunes shaped by winds in an atmosphere that barely seems thick enough to move anything, and a moon that may have been captured rather than formed alongside it.

And somehow, some of the strangest discoveries have only come in the last two years.

There's a sun theory set around reoccurring micro nova events that could have quite a heat effect on our whole solar system. Possibly causing the upwelling turning over the glacier.

This video is truly captivating. I was really impressed by how you explained the liveliness of Pluto, especially the section on the 'heart' Sputnik Planitia [03:25]. The theories about the subsurface ocean and ice volcanoes open up a completely new perspective compared to what I previously knew about this planet. The part where you discussed how the James Webb telescope confirmed the haze layer cooling the atmosphere [13:00] was incredibly convincing. Thank you for putting so much effort into such high-quality content; I look forward to seeing more great videos like this!" 🚀🌌✨

This presentation was Great! I always wondered about Pluto's heat source-never believing the "Televisions'" explanations (which amount to babble. Tnank you

New Horizons revealed mountains of water ice, flowing nitrogen glaciers, possible ice volcanoes, a blue organic haze, and evidence of an ocean buried beneath nearly 80 kilometers of ice. We had spent decades assuming Pluto was a frozen world where nothing had changed for billions of years. Then one small spacecraft crossed the solar system and showed us how wrong we were. 🛰

It makes you wonder how many other distant worlds we have already dismissed simply because they are too far away to see clearly. How many are still moving, changing, and hiding oceans beneath their surfaces while we look toward them and see only tiny points of light? 🌌🪐
