I would argue it is the decline of sanity in the United States that would be the cause of any collision between the United States and China. I really appreciate this channel and usually find the discussions here very valuable, but I found this episode more one-sided than usual.

China’s demographic development is undoubtedly a serious challenge. Still, I think it is too simplistic to conclude that it will inevitably lead to long-term decline.

I have traveled to both China and the US several times, and my personal experiences have led me to see the situation in a more nuanced way. In China, I was impressed by the scale of investment in infrastructure and development. In the US, by contrast, I have seen deteriorating infrastructure, visible poverty, and growing inequality in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

I have also visited many factories in China, and what I have seen there has been extremely impressive. The scale, speed, level of automation, and manufacturing capabilities are difficult to appreciate until you see them firsthand. I don’t think it will be quick or easy for the US to rebuild comparable industrial capacity.

Demographics also do not necessarily have to translate directly into economic decline. As you mentioned yourselves, AI, robotics, and automation could significantly change the relationship between population size and economic output. China faces major challenges, but I would not underestimate its ability to adapt.

I would not want to live under a dictatorship. But neither would I want to live in a society where wealth and opportunity become increasingly concentrated at the top while large parts of the population are left behind. To me, a government should ultimately serve the well-being of its people.

The US has brought tremendous innovation, prosperity, and many positive ideas to the world. At the same time, it has made serious mistakes, and some of its policies have caused a great deal of suffering. China absolutely deserves criticism. But the US should be examined with the same critical distance.

PPP GDP is superior when evaluating the actual standard of living or individual well-being of a country's residents, as it eliminates distortions caused by local prices and the cost of living across different nations.
