Uber/Lyft is never a long term solution. It’s get in – GET OUT!! As quickly as possible. From what I’ve heard, the longer you stay working with their platforms, you’ll be in serious debt.

I'm in sw florida – they often offer me – 20-30 mile runs (uber eats) to take cava from alico and 75 – imokelee rd and 75 (26 milishes ish) (there is a cava on imokelee why do you not go there – they make more money for a distance run (total rip off for customer – total rip off they know there are resturaunts closed (customer can't pick what resturaunt is closer = uber is knowingly stealing 10's of thousands from the food delivery by taking food farther than 30 minutes (for dairy queen – pizza – target – etc)

My city just started it's own driver co-op. Drivers make more, and passengers pay less. It's great. Only small issue is the app has fewer options than Uber/Lyft.

People have the freedom to not use uber, not drive for uber and the freedom to create your own uber that’s “more perfect” yet all I see is”perfection” doing is complaining and not rolling up sleeves and creating something “more perfect”.

Uber gave me a 40% discount because I hadnt used them in a while.
I asked the driver what he got for the 23minute ride, he got 2 dollars instead of his normal around 16-20$ for that same ride, the discount was fully taken out of the drivers already small cut.
Uber lost nothing on giving me a 40% discount the driver did not get enough to cover gas.

I didn’t know that Uber dramatically reduced the driver’s take rate when the new CEO came in, and seeing that Uber now takes ~50% of the money is frankly a bit shocking. It was also alarming to see that the “auto insurance and operating expenses” line-item is so arbitrary; given the analysis presented, it seems like it’s more of a “make Uber’s earnings hit our quarterly target” lever than a reflection of market dynamics. I wish Uber were more transparent about all this; it seems like they’re trying to hide their economic model.

I was also a bit disappointed that the video represented the “auto insurance and operating expenses” category as though it was just “auto insurance” without providing evidence explaining why it is thought to be mostly auto insurance, and what the ratio (of auto insurance to other items) is thought to be. Also, that Uber owns the insurance company was presented as a “gotcha,” but it’s standard practice at Uber’s scale (as I understand it) for such providers to be owned (see: auto manufacturers and their financing divisions).

For me the big takeaway was that Uber’s cost structure has gotten very large, and they owe the public and their drivers transparency on where all this money is going — and they owe their stakeholders a clear plan on how they intend to get their costs much lower.

Hiding profits in a secondary company so you can stiff contractors is an old trick. Hollywood signed contracts with net-profit bonuses to actors, writers, and authors, then had their wholly owned distribution and advertising companies charge high fees, increased Admin costs and loaned money from themselves to declare losses on movies. Airlines run profits into catering and maintenance when pay negotiations are up. etc etc.

So how come when I wanted to drive for Uber and I mentioned it to MY INSURANCE COMP, they were going to raise MY RATES? It’s not like Uber pays the insurance on MY CAR! Even if I had an accident with a passenger in my car, they could still sue ME and Uber…total BS racket Uber has going on here! Precisely why I didn’t even consider driving for them…AND I saw all the videos of people freaking TF out in Uber cars, throwing crap, tearing up back seats, destroying things, and then nothing gets done about it! Nope nope and hell nope! Homey don’t play like that! 🤨

How is there such a sense of privacy when you know EVERYTHING in there is recorded and being viewed God knows where by God knows who…..Why are we pushing ourselves out of existence. Literally and figuratively handing over the keys to our entire existence to AI…It's really insane and truly dystopian.
