The Best 90’s Alternative Album You’ve Never Heard Of

Metal Trenches | August 21, 2026

Talking about one of the most overlooked and underrated alternative rock albums of the 90’s. Quicksand should have gotten AT LEAST as big as Helmet in my opinion, and their debut full length Slip is an absolute gem that deserves more attention. @QuicksandNYCvideo #quicksandband #alternativerock #90srock

"The Rebellious Atmosphere that is unexplainable"…let me try. With our florescent color clothing, mushroom haircuts, gross-out humor, and edgy attitudes; we thought it'll never get any cooler than us. What we listened to, the games we played, what we watched in the 80s would all be labelled as g4y until September 11th 2001. That's when everyone wanted to stop being mopey teens, and go back to being kids. All of a sudden, being rebellious and having an attitude wasn't cool anymore.

Saw these guys on Beavis and Butthead. I was watching the old episodes a year or so ago and I realized I can't do that anymore because I end up pausing them looking for the bands online. Took me forever to get through an episode!

I turned 50 this year and the 90s definitely were very formative for me musically. Thx for a great band I have never heard of.

And thx for your utter devotion to heavy music. I look forward to more any of your content

Never heard of these guys, will check it out! Am a fan of Cicadastone, dark Aussie grunge though! Speaking of grunge has anyone heard of Paw? Found them on Road Rash pc game soundtrack, loved them, passionate, raw songs about trucks, camping, driving, drinking, so very American, mixing a vocalist with a huge roar and a fraction of southern rock with a meaty grunge sound, best album is Dragline, everyone should check it out, particularly the songs Jessie, Pansy and The Bridge, honourable mention to Dragline the title track too!

I'll go check this out for sure. I get a lot of joy in recommending Five Pointe O's album "Untitled" to a lot of younger metalheads who are just getting into more nu-metal influenced stuff. Absolutely one of my favourite albums of all time and so under appreciated.

Great record, great band – although I prefer Walter Schreifels' other band Rival Schools. Used For Glue has a riff that can split diamonds. (On a side note: Schreifels sounds German und could literally be translated as Screamrock. What a name for a singer.)
