Today we hello this is a description

“In 2013, Welsh computer engineer James Howells mistakenly disposed of a laptop hard drive containing the private key for 8,000 Bitcoin in the Docksway landfill in Newport, Wales. Howells subsequently assembled a team of specialists and secured funding to excavate the site, but Newport City Council refused permission, citing the cost and environmental impact of the search. If the coins are discovered, Howells proposes distributing 30% of the proceedings among the council and the population of Newport.
As of February 2025, the missing Bitcoin was worth £597 million (US$751 million). In December 2024, Howells sued the council for £495 million, with the council contesting that the device is now its property. The attempted recovery of the missing Bitcoin has been likened to a digital treasure hunt. Howells and his team are confident that retrieval of the data remains possible, while the council continues to profess its scepticism. Following a hearing, the High Court dismissed Howells’ claim in January 2025, ruling that it had no prospect of success.”

Having a highly skilled job. But Just leaving a valuable drive with bitcoin on, laying around the house unlabelled does seem like a really dumb thing. Put it in a anti static bag inside a drawer.

I say these are old people in the council and they don't believe some data can be worth this much. Of course this is kinda unbelievable but the facts are that Bitcoins have value on the market. They just refuse to accept that, because it doesn't fit their world view which probably stopped developing around the 1960s or 1970s.

I tell you what if somebody wanted to give me a couple million dollars to dig through the trash and make sure everything was put back the way it was found that I let him dig through the trash. So long as it wasn't bringing the public into some sort of danger my guess is they found us hard drive they stole his money which is a conspiracy theory hey why else would they deny a man his own garbage

Yeah the jurisdiction probably found it broke the encryption and stole his money that would be the reasonable explanation as to why they wouldn't let him search for his own trash. And when you have a unqualified individual making judgments on something they have no knowledge of or about seems to be quite a bit crooked and typical of modern British and American government

If I lived there I would get a job there and help him find it as long as he split it with me. I bet he could bribe the normal lower level workers and middle management to help him find it. Hell I’d be surprised if the workers haven’t already found it and cashed in on it!
