Is Evercade’s $30 DOOM Cartridge BETTER Than the $250 Bundle? + More Retro News!
This week on Bit By Bit, Evercade is bringing DOOM to cartridge — but do you really need the massive $249.99 limited-edition DOOM Nexus bundle when existing Evercade owners can grab the new DOOM Collection cartridge for just $29.99? We break down what you’re actually getting and which option makes the most sense for retro gamers and collectors.
Plus, nearly 100 pristine copies of a previously unseen Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt variant have surfaced, including five cartridges earning a perfect PSA 10 grade. Commodore is resurrecting the legendary TAC-2 joystick for $49.99, and one of the rarest arcade machines ever made — a working two-player Computer Space cabinet from 1973 — has gone up for auction.
We also check out a new ModRetro M64 firmware update bringing wireless rumble, display options, audio improvements and more; Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns brings the classic strategy game back roughly 40 years later; Y2K electronics-repair sim ReStory passes 300,000 sales; and Bubsy 4D gets a huge Black Hole update with 15 new levels, outfits, leaderboards and more.
If you’re into retro gaming, classic hardware, game preservation, modern retro consoles, and all the weird and wonderful things happening in the hobby, subscribe and join us every week for Bit By Bit!

For reasons, I never really played the original DOOM.
I wonder how it will play on the Super Pocket or the Alpha?

Very cool news
Total tangent, but I need to throw this out to you
Physician here
Probably nothing but sooner than later, ask your doctor for TSH test
He'll know
Again, very likely nothing to worry about
Stay healthy brother !

George, Ferdinand Porsche could really "kill it" when it came to manufacturing Volkswagen and other military equipment for the Third Reich but I would not have purchased a Volkswagen even had one been available for purchase in Canada at the time. I'm not buying a bloody ModRetro N64 for the very same reason.
A war profiteer is a war profiteer no matter the product, no matter the season.

I played Defender of the Crown on my friend’s Atari ST. One of my favorites!
The article got the Retro Mode and Classic Mode backwards. Retro is the original and Classic is the updated version. Looking forward to playing the new one!

This makes we wonder: what is the cheapest way to play DOOM (the shareware version)? Hardware and software altogether.

I pre-ordered the cartridge from Funstock US site. I have been wanting this since forever, and they came through!! I have this Doom set on Steam, (its the new one) and it's awesome, but had to have that dark red cart.

So the DOOM carts sell out & Wolverine PS5 disc(on Amazon UK) sells out etc etc & those big EVIL companies(SONY, Microsoft etc etc) say no one wants physical media no more?!?! 🤔 🤔 🤔 Retro4LiFE now for me 😎 😎 😎 (ok they didn't make loads of the DOOM ones but I'm sure if they made more they would sell more + SONY probably limits the discs now too. Oh well) 😢

Glad to have you back in the studio but the last two weekends have been a ton of fun with the Expo coverage!
Tons of great news especially Computer Space and glad you got to play it last week. I got to play one a couple months ago and it’s amazing.
Have a great week and thanks for all the coverage buddy

yEAh, the Doom Nexus and cartridge announcement is epic. I snagged a Doom cart, and a few other Evercade carts before all the prices spike in the next year. The Tac 2 is cool to see, I was going to get one, but with shipping and fees, it ends up being $75. You do get coins upon signing up that takes $5 off, basically covers the tax, but the $20 delivery fee makes it $70 for the basic one. Retro Rules!

I was fortunate enough to have snagged one of the Doom edition Nexus handhelds. They sold out in less than 15 minutes on the Funstock EU site.
I’m a huge Evercade fan so I’m really looking forward to the Nexus!
