Ya I don't know much about the economics of AI companies, or really care as I agree it is being backstopped if not front run by the government for national security reasons, much like crypto. Kind of ironic they say it is in a bubble given the supposed goal of AI and robotics is to make goods and services so inexpensive and in abundance that "money" will become almost not needed and obsolete. It will be interesting to see in the next 5 years though how AI agents and crypto merge to supercharge transactions and commerce efficiency.
So what's your take on AI algorithms being able to read thoughts through electrical activity in the brain? Seems it is real as I keep seeing new articles talking about it almost every week. Talk about big brother watching. Won't even need Precogs like in the movie Minority Report. Shouldn't need the TSA anymore, which I am fine with.

The purpose of AI is not to make society better, not to beat China, not even to make money for the AI companies. It's to run the surveillance and control system that's being built around us on many levels. Surveillance, digital currency, social credit, utility rationing, transportation, law and order, media, you name it. We are currently feeding it with data and paying for it through taxation. We are helping to build our own prison. Just my opinion of course. Love to be wrong but I feel this in my bones.

How about 20X more efficient chips that are so efficient because they lack all the general purpose machinery that a GPU has that can run specific AI models that fast.
Those are the things that will deliver the AI for end users in high volume. It's that what takes majority of AI workloads from the GPU:s.

Sorry Tom, most of us see the reality that the demand is only from the closed loop of chip manufacturers and other AI companies. If AI can replace the majority of the workforce who is going to buy the products? The government money is the workforce's money. Also many companies are not willing to pay the tokens. Plus quantum chips will make the behemouth AI Centers obsolete.

Tom and your first 2 minutes and 30 seconds are all anyone needs to hear on the subject if they don't have time for a full explainer…
fundamentally this is a race between two superpowers – in pursuit of intelligence and intelligence alone – anything we as a society get to mess around with as a by-product like video generation tools and whatnot like complain about it all you want or maybe try the product before hating it and bare minimum all the haters and doomers out there need to understand that this is so much bigger than them – as a global society and as a species we are bringing into being an intelligence greater than our own.
this isn't just a big deal for smart monkeys like us – it's a big deal for the planet, the solar system the Galaxy and who knows maybe the Universe! this is a lot of responsibility… the thing that we create May inherit everything then it's able to travel to given relativistic speed limits.

Grok and Gemini is probably two is the cheapest that doesn’t get talked about enough. Grok especially is going to be the leader here. The two top i predict will not go public as they wont be able to win at these rates and probably cant make money they have put in. If they do it wont be as high as people expect and probably tank fast. Elon will be at the top, look at his quick scaling and quality of what he has put out. Bots, video, images, harness everything including the machines.

China and its Real Estate drop is taking a toll on them, but still, with the divide of our government they will kill us in advancement in AI. We can't get Clarity past with both sides at each other's throats..

Tom talks about 2nd and 3rd order consequences, but I do not hear him acknowledge food and water shortages and our grazing land and aquifers are rendered useless because we supposedly need AI.

So you say the hyperscalers aren't in a bubble because they are at 5% debt to value ratio. What is the basis of that value? Oh, the stock price, which may be in a bubble. So we are not in a bubble, because we are in a bubble. What drawdown would need to happen for this to get dangerous? About 70%. Well at that point we arent getting dangarous, we are neck deep. So, yeah your analysis stands. We are far from the dangerzone… except for Oracle. That puppy is already there.

Tom's comment that people only care about "what is my life like", shows his mindset is highly reductive, mechanical, linear, and infected with a wee bit of 'nihilism' – ways of thinking that, when prevalent, is not good for the all round mental health of a society in the long run.
Though, I believe, the common person does not quite vibe with Tom's ways of thinking, as their minds still resonate to that 'essence' which has 'guided' life on Earth for 4 billion years.

I concur with your perspective that digitizing rare books yields more benefits than drawbacks. Unless you're rare books collectors who may want to preserve scarcity. I think the key is the quality and completeness of the digitization. Nothing should be omitted even the condition of the paper should be recorder as well. Last year, my child, who was searching for an old academic book that had been out of print for decades, found only one person selling it in loose paper form. She purchased the fragile collection of papers and wanted to digitize them to preserve them, but the papers were too large for a regular scanner. Consequently, they are still sitting in my house for safe keeping!😕
