What a lovely tribute. I found so much comfort in Angela as a child. She reminded me of a favorite family member in certain ways and helped to keep me entertained and bright in tough times.
To know she would have accepted me fully as I am heals my heart a bit as well.

Angela Lansbury will always be my number one leading lady. Even though I knew most of this biographical information already, hearing you deliver it gave it more detail and in a way that made it even more special. You really understand how hard she fought and worked to get where she got and to keep what she had. I wish I had been born in a time when I could have followed her career in real time and experienced her perform on Broadway.
I am lucky enough to have been able to write to her, and tell her how much she meant to me back in 2018, and she sent back a beautiful autographed photo. Excellent video!

The iconic and immensely talented Angela Lansbury was one of my absolute favorite people in the world. To hear that she often lamented that Hollywood refused to cast her in leading lady roles opposite major stars like Clark Gable and Cary Grant can be explained. In my opinion, although Lansbury had very pretty features, the kiss of death for those opportunities that she so desperately wanted was her face shape. She has a very traditional, typically English, almost masculine face shape with her elongated chin, heavy jawline and chubby cheeks. But the most important feature missing that reigns supreme however is high cheekbones. Undoubtedly the most striking and number one asset to 99% of faces who are classified as beautiful or gorgeous-past or present-is high cheekbones.

Angela Lansbury is one of those people that I look back on and say "Damn, I wish I could have met her. Tell her what her work meant to me". Bedknobs and Broomsticks was a favorite growing up. And Beauty and the Beast is still my favorite Disney film. Rest assured, Angela, you will be missed by me for the rest of my life.

My goodness. She WAS beautiful in her young years!! I was going to say that I can't believe that Hollywood told her she wasn't, but actually I can, sadly. I'm glad she didn't listen to all the rejection and give up on herself.

Yes, Anyone Can Whistle was a flop, but listening to Angela Lansbury on the original cast album completely sold me on HER! And although I never really cared for Murder She Wrote, I am so glad AL did that too, because it gave my Mom such joy and pleasure. The part that fascinated me in that show was exactly what you talked about: where else could you see people like Glynnis Johns, or Cyd Charisse? Angela Lansbury was wonderful!

One of the minor Broadway tragedies is that no official film or video of the Broadway production of Mame with Landsbury was ever made, so a full performance of that show was lost. There are some pirate clips of one show which were covertly (and illegally) shot with a 8mm amateur movie camera. A very short piece of the pirate film is shown in the video.

A portrait of determination and resilience. Add talent to the mix and Angela was unstoppable – her range from sweet to ruthless was impressive. She was grounded and learned from life's hardships, and I am sure she achieved her success without the aid of the casting couch (George Cukor would not have propositioned her!). I also liked her in The Harvey Girls and Something For Everyone.

Her death was one of the few celebrities that I really felt hit by. She was such a lovely human along with having so much talent, and as an elder Millennial, my childhood was shaped by so much of her work. Lovely tribute to her. ❤

I enjoyed Murder She Wrote as a young teenage girl. What a wonderful role model her character was… Plucky, determined,smart, brave, and kind. I never realized what a stunning beauty she was.

Back when I was around 5 we lived pretty far into the bush in Tasmania, we only received about three channels and none of them really played kids shows I used to love watching murder she wrote! I was obsessed with the intro song. Such an icon truely Rest in peace
