Hmmmm, guess I'm gonna have to look into this Bagalago. Sounds fun, and I LOVE the name! Truth be told, I wasn't really interested until Greg described it as, "A love letter to American card culture." That guy has a way with words! đŸ‘đŸ‘đŸ‘đŸ’ŻđŸ’ŻđŸ’Żâ€â€â€ïž

If knowing how Balatro works makes someone a zoomer, then I'm a 43 year old zoomer. Despite I keep hearing people over 30 start calling themselves a boomer, which boomer is from baby boomer, who are all like 65+ now. I think this has proven that the boomer/zoomer thing is dumb. If you don't believe me, hold on a bit. What's Fortnite going to be called when a bunch of people that played it before 30 are over 30? You can't just start labeling it a boomer shooter as it and more and more players get older, because games like UT are are labeled "boomer" shooters, and the game design is very different between Fortnite and arena shooters. And people over 30 aren't all just going to magically stop liking something like Fortnite (which I've played a few months around 2019-2020), and suddenly start liking games like UT. And if you suggest something new shows up along boomer and zoomer, we already have that, it's called generations, like baby boomer, X, Y, Z, and alpha, and those have also proven to be stupid in their own way, since like anything in life, not everyone fits neatly into restrictive categories.

Great video! Not gonna lie, I thought that I wouldn't learn anything new, as it's hard to be active in English-speaking spaces without being completely immersed in the US pop culture, but there we go: l I've never heard booster packs being called "foil packs", as to a TCG-playing person "foil" sounds misleading, what with it usually referring to rare versions of regular trading/collectible cards, the difference being that they are printed using a shiny holographic foil as one of the components of the card (alternatively, and much less commonly, one can say that their cards are "foiled" to denote that they are using transparent card protectors). Can't say I was aware of the "hanging chad" issue during those elections, either.

PS: even though I'm aware how many pro players like to dress, I still can't help but think of the Unabomber when I see that joker, haha…

PPS: Aw, you've lost The Fool! Also, the Minor Arcana do differ slightly from regular cards, as there's one more court card aside from the king, the queen, and the knight: the page. It's also worth noting that there are three secret planet cards in Balatro (just like there are three secret hands that are impossible to play in regular poker). And there's even a black hole card!

There are a lot of others that were missed/didn't have time to cover.

the "to the moon" joker depicting a rocketing line graph is a reference to the modern tech bro crypto investor idiom and was a repeated phrase during GME short in 2021.

the "business card" joker is most likely a nod to the American psycho scene where Patrick Bateman and his colleagues were showing off their business cards.

the "bootstraps" joker is a reference to the common American cultural idiom "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps". The card double downs on this theme by its mechanic where it increases in power as you gain more money.

the "Stuntman" joker depicts a joker reminiscent of the American Stuntman Evel Knievel.

the "hit the road' joker is a reference to the hit 1961 song "Hit the road Jack". Additionally in order to unlock the "hit the road' joker you have to discard 5 Jacks at the same time. its main gimmick is it gets stronger as you discard Jacks from your hand.

Playing Balatro while listening to this video 😂 also I do agree J.J, Canadians tend to simply absorb American culture SO much, generally we easily miss or sweep under the rug anything that would be considered Canadian.

You could research the game a little more and not just trust of random friend that's wrong about every single joke you mentioned like what is going on here this is the most horribly researched game it would be fun to work do you want to work by playing a card game then f**** just play it so you know what you're talking about frustrating watch just to ask you to play a couple rounds of games so you could actually like grasp what the game was instead of just being like well just too big poker hands inspired by whatever blah blah blah

Yo I have never seen this channel in my life just clicked on it cause I like Balatro – what the hell is my favorite ex-mental illness collector/ex-radical centrist/ex-anticentrist content creator doing here? Why in the fresh hell is he labeled childrens entertainer?

Missed opportunity to talk about the cultural significance of including Ceres, Eris and Planet X. Ceres and Eris briefly flirting with planetary status and Planet X being a hypothetical planet. The further significance being that these three planet cards which are not 'real' planets, improve hands that are not possible in standard poker, Flush House, Flush Five and Five of a Kind, respectively. I just love that!

Also, don't sleep on planet cards. They're better than you think.
